Brompton rear wheel rebuilding

Hi,

I'm a newbie and I'm looking for a guide to rebuild rear wheel for my 2012 M3L Brompton

as advised by Brompton I have bought the
Brompton 16 Inch Double wall Rim, Angle Drilled and the Brompton Spoke and Nipple Set Single Butted 146mm Silver

This set is used for 2-cross lacing.

I've tried searching, however, I cannot find any proper tutorial, the results were either too complicated or mostly for 3-cross pattern or bigger size wheels.

So if you could help me find a guide to build the Brompton rear wheel, I would greatly appreciate.

Little wheels with thick spokes I imagine all of them are put in the hub flanges at once,

the key spoke concept is about getting the gap between the Groups of 4 open, over the Valve stem.

where I've bent the last quarter of the longer thinner spokes to lace the final side of the wheel.

I built my 1st wheel from Sheldon Brown's site. I strongly recommend using it.

Building a two cross pattern wheel is exactly the same process as a three cross pattern with the exception that you only cross each spoke twice rather than 3 times. The Wheel Pro book on wheel building gets good reviews. Bicycle wheels, wheelbuilding book and courses
Good luck.

That isn't quite true. The process is similar, but the details are different as to where the spokes go into the hub flange. Radial/no cross vs 1 cross, 2 cross, 3 cross or 4 cross change the location of where the the alternating head direction spokes go.

For the 4 spokes closest to the rim's valve hole... There is a pair of spokes coming from the same side of the hub flange, with spoke heads facing different directions. For 1 cross = 3 hub flange holes apart, 2 cross = 5 holes apart, 3 cross = 7 holes apart, 4 cross 9 holes apart. On the rim one of those spokes is in the rim hole next the the valve hole, the other is two holes away. The rim hole offsets determine the remaining details... Easier to do than to explain. The total number of rim/hub spoke holes determine what spoke cross options you have. With 36 hole rims you can have up to 4 cross. You lose a spoke cross option each time the number of spoke holes changes by 4, so on a 32 hole rim max is 3 cross... etc.

If you have an existing 2 cross wheel, take close up pictures of the group of 4 spokes on both sides of the valve hole on the rim. But I agree with everyone else. Buy a book or find some on-line instruction. I started building wheels 43 years ago by just looking at existing wheels, but now that the resources exist, use them. Building wheels is not difficult, but if you do it wrong you may suffer dire consequences or at best waste some money if you don't do it right.
