Creaking MU P8
My wifes MU P8 has developed a creak. It sounds like it comes from the fold joint and appears when going over rougher road sections and when pedaling hard. The bolts to the folding joint seem tight enough (I don't have a torque wrench). It happened before and I took it to the dealer for it's check up and they fixed it but now it's back. She doesn't put a lot of miles on it maybe 200 since the repair. Any thoughts? The dealer I bought this from is about an hour away and I would like to avoid driving into NYC.
Thanks. |
Could be the inner faces of the joint rubbing against each other. Rub them with some wax or thick oil.

creakin can be a lot of things ....
First..lets clean the bike and make sure no dirt is anywhere than : I would start with the hinge... it needs to be tight not overly tight but if you press it with your hand there should be some red left when u look at your palm ... I know this is very ..lol .. but usually works 2. look at the foldeing handlepost ... grease the contact areas ... adjust tension if necessary 3. Seatpost ... make sure NO grease is contacting the actual seatpost ... You can put a dab of grease in between the sleeve and the frame 4. Cam part of the seatpost quickrelease.. dab of grease than open and close 5 times, re adjust 5. Seatpost to seat bolt ... tighten 6 Cam on the adjustable handlepost and cam on the Handlebar clamp .. grease... than tighten 7. bring it to Olney ( Illinois) and I fix it .... we are much more Nycer than most folks in Noo Yawk ... albeit a little out of the way ..:-) thor |
Lubricate all moving parts( joints, hinges, bolts, clamp etc). Tighten all bolts but not overly. Best you can identify the source of the sound. Try pedalling on a quiet place or a trainer if you got one so you have better chance to find the source. And some hints to use, for example you can stand pedalling so that you know if the sound is from the seat/seat post.
