Lightweight Dahon Mu Uno

First of all, I love this bike! I had it since 2010 and ride almost every day. I bought it from NYC Wheels. They kept the handlebar, the seat and the seatpost since I knew I wanted to replace these right away. I’ve been modifying the bike over the years. It’s now 17,5 pounds.

Seatpost:
Dahon Kore Seat Post 33.9 silver
Kore i beam Rail Adaptor (silver)

Seat:
Brooks B15 Swallow Titanium Brown

Handlebar:
Old MTB carbon, cut in length and painted matte black (I don’t want any carbon finish on this bike). Hand made leather grips

Chainset:
Dahon FSA Gossamer Chainset Black/Silver 53T 170mm ISIS

Bottom bracket:
Suntour ISIS Bottom Bracket Sealed Unit 113mm

Pedals:
Modified Exustar (roughly 100g)

Front wheel:
Dahon Front Wheel Kinetix Pro Magnesium

Belt drive:
CDX Front Sprocket 60Teeth 5-Bolt (CDXF560)
CDX Rear Sprocket 22 Teeth Alfine/Nexus/SRAM (CDXR22SR)
CDX Belt 113 Teeth (CDXB113)
Added BMX style chain tensioners for the horizontal dropout to make belt drive tension adjustment simple.

Other modifications:
Removed kickstand, and cut of the part of the frame that supports it (I never leave my bike unfolded)
Replaced the quick release for the handlebar with a screw. Don’t need to fold the modified handlebar.
Removed all reflectors and other stuff Dahon littered the bike with :-)

I know many people want a higher gear ratio. For my type of city riding this setup works well. I like the single speed coaster brake setup.

I have two projects that I would like to do:

The first is to have a new rear wheel built. I seen some guys on this forum do that. I’m not a wheel builder but we have good wheel builders in Stockholm. I’m willing to replace the Shimano rear hub for another single speed coaster as long as it’s compatible with the belt drive. I would like to build it with the Kinetix Pro Rear Wheel rim to match the front wheel. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to proceed with this?

The second project is the pedals. I used to have foldable pedals but they where clumsy and heavy. I would like foldable pedals. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Jesper
