TOKYO Citizen Bike 16" question.

Howdy all,

I know these bikes do not have the best reputation on this forum, but for what I want to use it for I hope it will work.

I am a truck driver and I would like to take a folding bike with me for the times when I have a longer layover. Just to go a few miles to go do something, or to get to a bus to go places. This is why I want a TOKYO Citizen Bike 16" because it folds so small to fit in my truck.

My question is I am 6' and 190lbs, is this bike going to fit me? Their Website recommends the 20" for taller riders. But like I said the smaller the better for storage in my truck.

I have a truck driver friend and he carries a Bike Friday Tikit where every he goes. He is roughly your size and Tikits come in many sizes and a wide range of prices depending what you want them to do. Roger

Where are you located? Do you regularly drive I-35 or I-40? We have a Dahon Curve D3 available for test rides. See Dahon Curve D3

The reputation is that the frame and hinges on Citizens don't feel as sturdy as Dahons or Terns.

Citizen bikes are also relatively heavy and geared very low.

The Bike Friday Tikit is a GREAT bike but costs almost 10 times as much as the Tokyo.

A reasonable option might be a Downtube folding bike, as they have a better reputation than Citizen with comparable prices.

SLC Tikits may 10 times as much but they are at least 20 times better than the Tokyo bike. If the bike is a pain to unfold and gives you a pain when you are riding it will live in the back of the truck not being used. There are pre owned Tikits available from BF the are more like 5 or 6 times as much and come with a full warranty if money is your driving force. Roger

Great point, on the other hand, this bike living in the back of a truck is likely also going to be parked even if for short periods of time in warehouse districts and other high theft areas. Not sure how well bike thieves know Bike Fridays but if they do, that, or a Brompton, would be a target much more so than a Dahon, Downtube or Origami.
