Pump roller suitcase handle
Here's an idea I don't have the time, experience, or wherewithal to follow up on. My toddler today got his first suitcase and it has the plunger handle that pops up so you can roll it through the airport. He yanked it up and pushed it down and that was the same thing I showed him to do with the bike pump, so he looked for the hose, and he didn't find it. Why not do that with a folding bike case?

the company behind Selle Anatomica was making industrial leather packing and pump cups First .. |
Cant think of a way this idea could be practical.
A handle thats also a pump might be not very good at either role. Especially when mini pumps or co2 inflation kits could be placed in a side pocket of the case instead of adding a section to enclose the pump hose /mechanism. I have heard that the janitor called Hoover was at an inventors show. Here he witness a cleaner that blow dust over the audience. A annoyed watcher out "it should suck" you fool. Maybe your are close to an idea. |
The problem with integrated products is that they are convenient if everything works but if one function breaks, the whole unit loses it's value. Modularity has addressed that to a certain extent but isn't always an applicable option.
A pump that doubles as a travel case handle has the added requirements of needing to be very stout to resist bending which can either mean larger size (and weight) or having to use stronger (more expensive alloys) and it will probably have to be capable of being locked in both extended and retracted positions. It's a novel idea but you'd have to question the effort needed in designing it versus it's viability... or you could always just rely on very creative marketing strategies to sell it to glassy eyed consumers. Personally I prefer ideas such as Brompton's little pump that is always attached to the frame of the bike or Dahon's seatpost pump. In both instances the pump is always with the bike. |
