Is it ironic that the president of the United States can't control leaks, whereas a bike designer who's made off with millions of dollars can seemingly keep everything under wraps?

I know, right? That's quite some power.

Then Peter said, “Let there be dark”; and there was dark.

It's a Canadian thing.

WTF - made off - before you make an accusation like this, remember there is something called libel.

Ooh, maybe Michael Cohen will sue him!

You know the thread is dying when politics come into play.

Although seen from Europe the aforementioned drama is scarily hilarious :)

As far as "libel" goes, i'd say don't get your cycling lycra in a bunch, it's all good fun. After all, so close to the potential release and delivery of the first bike, the drama is still going, the coin-toss still in the air...that's pure scenaristic genius if you ask me! Then again, i'm not a backer, merely an armchair potato casting a disinterested albeit curious gaze upon this whole odyssey.

Besides, I think by now we should consider the third removed lawyer from Michael Cohen. You know SHTF when lawyers need lawyers.

Just saying ... you need to wait until he actually walks off with the money - which he hasn't ... yet. If he doesn't, making an accusations like was made can put you in all sorts of legal jeopardy - not just libel. My 2 bits is that I'll be getting my bike this year.

Some dude in a comment section talking smack is not going to get hit with a libel suit. No court in the land would consider such a ridiculous waste of time. I hope you get your bike, but this libel chat is silly.

guy trying to make money - another guy intentionally making **** up so guy's reputation is hurt so other guys don't buy the guy's stuff, which results in lost profit - maybe silly - but actionable - if you piss the guy off enough.

First of all Helix and the owner are Canadian and unlike the country below us we typically don't sue people not even for libel. Yes, it happens but these cases would make national headlines. So this talk of libel is just plain stupid. All a Canadian would do is ask for an apology.

Helix has not shipped bikes.

The man behind Helix received money from the Kickstarter campaign.

There is no lost profit.

Time to end this silly discussion that I started - bottom line is that whatever happens, it wont be on purpose, maybe incompetence, but not on purpose, which is what walking off with the money implies.

When they ship bikes, that will be on purpose.

Great thread. It continues to give me the church giggles.

Just found this on a image search. So I guess they have spent some of the money. (Add the www).primapowerlaserdyne.com/planets-best-folding-bike-being-manufactured-with-a-laserdyne-430/

Maybe: it depends of what is shipped !?

Look at what happens with the Vellobike+: the project was also delayed but they now eventually ship bikes (not yet the titanium frame version for which there is still no shipment date).

The problem is that these bikes are not what was promised.

First, the bikes is much heavier than promised, 2kg more with a bike equipped about 500g lighter Kojak tires than the originally announced Marathon.

The weight was one of the most important selling argument.

But the comparison of the pictures of the kickstarter campaign with the pictures of the shipped bikes show that the bike doesn't fold as compact as promised (look at the length of the rear triangle = distance crank-rear wheel axle)

Do you know if the changes to the dimensions of the Vellobike+ were mentioned to backers during development? That fold looks kind of messy compared to the prototype :(

I really hope there are no nasty surprises like that with Helix, but so far every change announced has been an improvement to the design or compopnent upgrade. There is an update due this weekend (if I recall correctly, it could be next week?), and since it's been four weeks instead of the usual two, I'm hoping for them to show some completed bikes, or at least some more frames built with their fancy equipment :D

chagzuki 04-12-18 09:43 AM

Wow, that change to the Vello bike defeats the purpose of that style of fold. It's probably larger now than a 20" Dahon or Tern.

The update is supposed to be this weekend. (I remembered cuz it's around tax day.)
With the Helix, I wonder how they'll design the fenders & rear rack.

Did you see the CAD diagrams of these included on one of the updates last year? Tidy concept. Interested to see it in practice.

I looked back thru all communication, & found no drawings of racks or fenders.
But there were drawings of the hard case.
