Hon Convertible
 

Good morning,
I just picked up an old 3 speed DaHon folder with the original owners manual, for the "Hon Convertible".
Warranty lists the "Hon Corporation" in Hayward California. Sturmey Archer hub date stamped June '85 and receipt for $219.95 when sold new in Portland Oregon in Oct '87.
Replaced 1 spoke, new tube and tire on back, re-packed wheel bearings, added oil to rear hub, and ride.
Quite different from my 25" frame bikes, keep hearing circus music in my head tho :)

I wonder how many bikes like that is still around. Looks like they have a lot of followers, especially in the far east. I had one but sent it to a better home. You can find plenty posted about the bikes in this forum and also other places like Flickr.

They were actually quite expensive, almost like brompton today?

Not quite expensive. They sold for around $250 back in the day. If you have an early eighties model, notice that everything is steel. Weight should be around 28 - 30 lbs. You could get one for next to nothing up to ~2006, until gas prices surged. I'll be posting pics of my '87 when I finish a totally sicko restoration this summer. (e.g. :)
