I've found a great reason to get a Brompton...

The Brooks Moorgate briefcase, made to mount on a Brompton. The briefcase is gorgeous, just gorgeous...yes, just shoot me, i know i am a $ucker for Brook$...

...now, seriously, back to reality, how do I mount this thing on a bike that is not a Brompton?

"how do I mount this thing on a bike that is not a Brompton?"

Brompton uses a carrier block bolted to the headtube;
using two holes on the frame arranged in a top & bottom pattern.
I'm not sure if drilling holes on a non Brompton would be enough.
On the B'ton this holes are beefed up with extra steel.

Can the Brompton block be installed on the Dahon luggage mount?

Brompton's own A bag is Posh enough for a Bank Exec.

I'm favoring their 'O' bag, supplied to Brompton by Ortlieb. Monsoon showerproof

That one is alright, nice for sure, but rather common and rather conservative.

I do Ortlieb, and I do Brooks. Both have their place.

I haven't researched this; but I would suggest that modifying the B'ton aluminum bag frame in your photo to work with the Dahon system might be a better/easier(cheaper/safer?) option. Perhaps getting a machinist/fabricator to swap the black plastic part for a custom aluminum/steel plate.

Klick Fix supplies a bunch of stuff for using Dahon's front Mount >.

But heck a collection of Folding Bikes won't take up Much room, in your House.

Very feminine looking, nice bag for a lady.

Abu Mahendra 08-06-16 12:46 AM

I've seen it, pawed it in black. it's an austere, imposing sheet of leather. It's the briefcase Darth Vader used to carry the design schematics of the Death Star. Brown is warmer, with its earth tones. had the shop had the brown i would have bought it on the spot.

Nice!! And exactely the same bike I want it for too, even the colour :thumb:

I have carved out and fitted a Brompton block but I would not trust it with full weight.

Winfried 08-16-16 05:42 AM

How much weight can it carry safely?

fietsbob 08-16-16 08:17 AM

& for how long, before metal fatigue from flexing while carrying that weight on the streets, riding,
causes the aluminum to break .

Wouldn't it be the same with this mounted on a Brompton? Otherwise, looks pretty good.

fietsbob 08-16-16 08:56 AM

They Make theirs of a selected Plastic at Brompton.. Its a Block not 2 parallel struts that will Flex.

Stress testing to destruction to get the data may be too much bother & expense .

So buyers will be the testers.. good Luck.

linberl 08-16-16 09:53 AM

Brommies are steel - if the Dahon is aluminum it is a whole different situation.
