That's the EX model. My Bike Shop and BRU in Singapore were selling a P8 or D8 model, disk brakes and German A Kilo fork, for SGD1650 as recently as nine months ago. EX, you're gonna pay more. UK, you're gonna pay more, particularly now that the GBP's taken a plunge. How about a Airnimal Joey?

At the time there was a forum member who had one and there was some discussion on the cost of the forks, which was I think around 50% of the purchase price. Maybe a bit of supply chain bashing has got the price down nowadays.

If you want to go off-road there is of course this:-Airnimal Rhino Black 2012 Folding Bike - Avon Valley Cyclery

I would add there are a lot of different types of off road, dirt biking.

I live in Western Montana and many of my favorite trails a Birdie would handle just fine. A lot of those trails I rode in the late 80s early 90s on fully rigid. I have spent some time in the Boulder City, NV area and Grand Junction, Co and Phoenix and the trails there in my opinion would not be Birdy friendly.

It also depends on the ability of the rider. I have had some BMX riders that could put virtually any bike through trails I can only walk.

As for the front shock on the Dahon. Often complete bikes have components that will cost almost half of what the whole bike does. Bike manufacturers usually buy components significantly cheaper than the wholesale price of the item.

I have stripped a lot of bicycles and sold the parts. There have been times I sold the Wheelset for what I paid for the complete bike....

What did you use to fit the thudbuster into the 34.9mm seatpost diameter? Looks like an adaptor of sorts? I've been interested in that for a while and I might well get that if I ever pick up a Birdy.

I used a Konga telescopic seat post from ebay. Then bought a regular thudbuster to fit the internal diameter of the lower section of the Kogna post. I have also bought the same post in another diametre for my Mezzo to fit a sus post to that.

$1,250 with normal frame and German A Kilo fork last time i checked in SG. About one half the price of a Birdy.

I am from SG. The one shown in photo was Jetstream EX, it has been discontinued. Jetstream P8 or D8 or D9 (2017) is available but definitely not fitted with A-Kilo.

Jetstream P8 is a tough bike, I've had (2012 version) it for 3 years and it still rides well. I have not put it to rugged terrain but did a few jumps and bike had crashed a few times, and still holding up. I've upgrade to A-Kilo adjustable suspension fork through LBS that offered a great deal.

Even so, I would not recommend the P8 for any REAL off-road activities.

Yes, as I implied in post #26, I was not talking about the EX model. Non-EX Jetstreams with German A Kilo for were available for sale--I saw them, I pawed them--earlier this year at My Bike Shop in Singapore.
