Frame stress.. rear hinged swivel/Montague design

Enamored, at first, by the folding bicycle, but now not so much.

The compact folder failures at folding joint weld looked like they could happen to all of the compact folders wherein the folding mechanism affects the integrity of the top tube. Has it been explained what specific welding practice resulted in the failures? The few different designs where the stress seems to be handled differently have been the horizontally hinged (Pacific cycles reach, Brompton too?) and the 'unbroken' top tube design in the Montague line up.

Brompton changed the hinge design and fabrication techniques, between the Mk2 which was a forged part, the tubes butt fillet brazed .

by a Skilled, trained, person.. Training more people, to meet sales demand for the bikes..

To a cast & machined part where the tube goes inside the cast part , the brass flows in the gap between the 2 steel parts.
and the jigs & Tooling can be fully automated, to be consistent time after time, and the numbers produced can be greatly increased..

Or a different hinge design that relies on two hinges with no welds like Dahon LockJaws.
