I stock the Continental Compact 20 Slim tubes .. 28-406 > 32-451 .. they will work, but predictably, tight in a 451 application and loose in a 406 .. QBP keeps them in stock in quantity... Schwalbe carries 451, (7 series), which fit better in a 451 tire... I also have Vittoria 406/451 lightweight tubes.. good point about rarely getting a flat near a bike shop.... but so true about walking into a bike shop expecting to buy a 451 tube and being disappointed ..

After i posted this i went into the storage room, and mounted the tube on a 451 rim. Tight, but not a herculean endeavor. The tubes are rather wide, perhaps too wide for non-BMX rims and tires. They are fine for wide 406 tires. They are quite thick so perhaps their best application is as a sturdy 406 tube.

I have also used a 406 tube on 451 rim. I succeeded when I partially inflated the tube, then it expands in both directions making it easier. Deflate for the final tyre bead mounting bit.

I think my problem may have stemmed from the tire. My kids tri bikes use 1" tires.

I don't remember the details of my problem ( it was in July for the 1st tri of the year ), however I recall that I decided that I must differentiate between 406 and 451 tubes...Due to my problem.

Thanks
Yan

SGS on 451

Here is an SGS (long cage) RD on a 451 wheel with triple crank in front.

BTW, it's a PC Reach T20

If you love those wire Shreddas, you should track down the lighter folding Maxxis Torch 37-451 (265g measured) or Maxxis DTH 37-451 wire (315g claimed)

Bike Rumor also posted an article on the new 451 Tern bikes: https://www.bikerumor.com/2017/02/13...r-bike-family/

That bigger wheel also improves stability, and gave them the opportunity to tune the geometry for an overall improved ride that was less twitchy. That new geometry slightly grows the total wheelbase for better stability, combined with updates to headtube angle and fork rakes.
Longer wheelbase, better headtube angle and fork rake for extra stability.

Save your money. Buy a Pacific Cycles Reach instead. Disk brakes, 451, suspension, and no hinge liability.

Looking for a fast folder for long rides.

The Reach would certainly do the job but I would actually prefer the faster, more compact, fold of the Verge since I`d be bringing it on trains fairly often (not crowded commuter trains though).

Suspension isn`t necessary on the roads and paths I usually ride and I think I`d rather have hydraulic disc brakes than mechanical.

That said, the hinge thing is a concern.

I wasn`t planning to buy anything for another month or so(with tax refund) but I`m interested.

Is everything I need to know in that Ti Swift thread?
