Giant Expressway 1
So my wife picked up a KHS F20 F7 folding bike. I have been riding it and now I'm hooked! I have since sold
My full size and I have the Expressway 1 ordered. It seems to be a bit higher end than the KHS. I think it looks a lot like the DAhon MARINER - which I liked but I would have been paying a considerable amount more especially with shipping. Did I make the right choice? I have not ridden the Expressway 1, so that makes me a bit nervous! |
Makes me nervous too. Folding bikes are so much more idiosyncratic than non-folding bikes, I always recommend test riding a folder first before purchase. What can be a boon to one person can be a dealbreaker to another. I sold my Giant Halfway because of the riding position being so far back over the rear wheel....I kept doing unintentional wheelies. Seriously. It's the only bike I've owned like that, and I've owned dozens.
Speed of fold, ease of fold, how the bike fits you, whether it's comfortable for long stretches or only the occasional jaunt, quality of frame, quality of parts and folding bits, whether it has a handle for easy carrying, whether you can wheel it along in the folded position...these are just a few things to consider. Let us know how it works out. |

I pick it up tomorrow afternoon. Il let you know my first impressions . I'm hoping that it locks up tight and secure when unfolded. It doesn't seem quite as secure as some other folding bikes - just by looking at the pictures

Picked it up today and took It for an extended test ride. Love the bike overall, it seems nice and sturdy. Still adjusting to the small wheels and bumpy ride, after all my last bike had 700c tires and front shocks. I know The Shimano Altus components are not the most high end, they shift ok however a few of the gears make noise...... maybe need to take it in. Is this something I can adjust myself?

Looks a fantastic bike and the component level is excellent for a folding bike plus Giant are just about the best frame manufacturer in the world. Sadly not a bike we get in the uk, the only folder Giant offer us is the Halfway which at face value looks quite good but in the detail has a very low end tourney freewheel and a few other compromises and they still want £575 for it. I guess why you don't see many Giant folding bikes in the uk. The Expressway 1 looks nicely spec'd though for those in countries lucky enough to get it.
What's most important is how you like the bike and how it rides but I think in frame quality and component terms you have done far better than buying a similar priced Dahon or Tern which just wouldn't match the quality of your Giant at the same price point and would probably feature low end tourney components. I just wish Giant had the same attitude towards the UK as the US and many other countries, they seem to want to operate on a higher profit margin over here. |
