Dahon Curve Winter Wheels:Removing Novatec F316SBT single speed cog without lock ring
Hi folks.
Given 8 weeks of snow last winter in Vancouver and the prediction of more this year thanks to la nina, I'm building a set of winter wheels with studded knobbies for my Dahon Curve. I bought a set of wheels with a single speed hub and want to replace the 9 tooth cog to gear the bike down a bit. The problem is that there is no lock ring. See attached photo. Before I buy a chain whip, could this cog be held on without a lock ring and simply require a chain whip to remove it?

No problem holding and turning the sprocket with a chain whip and turning it.
But, assuming it's simply threaded on, you have to find a way to hold the body to keep it from turning backward as you do so. Unless there's someplace to grab behind the sprocket in the photo, I suspect that you may have to disassemble the hub.
In your shoes, and unfamiliar with the hub, I'd email the maker for suggestions, or at least a set of rebuild instructions.

The cog and the freewheel body is one piece. From 10 Teeth and on it's screwed on to. You have to replace the whole piece. There is no spare parts available for what i know.
edit: i had a F416SBT, i ground down the cog and shrunk on a segment of a splined freehub body (ID 24mm), runs perfect.
