New Tire for Tern Verge?

I hit a massive pothole last night, and managed to pop the front tire, so I need a new one. I don't have a lot of experience with tires, so I was debating what kind I should get. The Tern is mostly for urban riding in New York City, both for commuting and getting around town, and for longer joy rides and day tours.

Tires that seem to be readily available around here are Schwalbe Kojaks, Marathon Racers, and regular Marathons. The bike currently has Kojaks (20"). I've done well enough with Kojaks, but given the harsh city streets (as the massive pothole can attest to), I'm thinking maybe I should get something more durable, so I'm thinking about a Marathon or Marathon Racer. Also, I'm thinking I'll only replace one tire right now, so it could be Marathon in front, Kojak in back. Is that too weird?

I like to ride fast, but I'm no kind of racer. I think I should be most concerned with practical and durable, but I don't want to compromise too much on speed or roll resistance. What kind of (20 inch) tire would you get? Any opinions would be helpful.

Marathon racers is what I would try next. I had them and liked them better than Kojaks. The rest of the Marathon line seem stronger but ride with a dead feeling.
