How to Get the Most Water on a Foldie

Hey,

So on a Dahon you have the one option for a water bottle cage. I'm trying to decide if it's best to buy one bottle cage that's adjustable for large bottles -- say the Topeak Modula XL -- or find another place to strap on a bottle using another device. It seems that just localising the water in the one area with a 1.5L bottle makes the most sense, but I haven't seen many people do that. What's the general consensus for getting the most water on the bike?

Thanks!

How about using a hydration pack? You can get water reservoirs with capacities up to 3L

I have an under-seat bracket that allows me to mount two bottle cages under/behind the saddle. It works well as long as I remember not to swing my leg over the back of the seat when I dismount.

Geigerigg

A 3L Geigerigg in a small backpack hung on the handlebars is the way to go.

In order to not adversely affect handling, you want water, possibly the densest stuff at 1kg/1L that you will bring on a bike, to be low on the bike. The downtube, its upper and lower faces, is perhaps the best spot. How much water are we talking about?

Just do that,.

I had the Topeak cage you mentioned, worked ok.
The only downside was that I would need to stop to drink.

Nowadays, I just use x2 750ml bidons.
If the bike lacks space, a saddle mount bottle bracket should work (I have one on one of my bikes)

I have a water bottle cage that attaches with velcro, made by Two Fish. In the photo, I also used an elastic band to attach the top of the bottle (one liter smartwater bottle) to the seatspost, you can see it was a tall bottle. You can't see it in the photo but I used some adhesive backed foam (used for weather stripping) on my frame so the bottle sat on the foam instead of sitting on the painted frame.

Also not seen in the photo is the pair of one liter water bottles I had in my saddle bag. It was the desert and I knew it would be a hot day, so I wanted plenty of water on the bike that day.

I have done this. Two varieties, one attaches to the seatpost, one clamps to the saddle rails. I have used both, but I generally do not use them if I have other options.

Here is one of them.

Airnimal Joey, older version that uses V brakes instead of disc.

Just 2 750ml bottles. I saw a way to mount a second bottle on the underside of the bike (like yours) so I think I'll go with that.
