Brompton: what's the function of this part?
Hi guys,
A few days ago my new Brompton arrived and I love it. Today I competed in my first BWC in Antwerp. Looking at the bike more closely, I discovered a part which I don't get the function of. It's the little tube / loop that's brazed on the left side of the steering fork, at the same height of the rim. I can't post a picture yet, because I'm new to the forum. First I thought it has something to do with an option my bike doesn't have, like a dynamo or something. But when googling pictures of other Bromptons, I discovered it looks the same on all bikes. The tube also doesn't seem to to have a function for the fold of for cable management. Who can solve this mystery for me? Joost |
I am new to Brompton too. I believe that is to attach a cable fender disk if you dont have mudguards to prevent the cable from running into the tires I guess. I had the same question and that is what I found out.

Btw, congrats on your first BWC participation. I have seem some on youtube and it looks like a lot of fun.

Thanks! Seems logical. I can definitely confirm that the BWC is a lot of fun. I've had a great day with beautiful weather and a good result. |
Did you win? What model were you riding? Stock or modified?
|
No, I didn't win but I guess I finished somewhere between 10th and 15th. I hope I'll receive the final results this week. My guess is that there were around 80 people competing. It's hard to win though. The three people on stage are die hard competors with fast bikes who have been doing this for years. The winner already won the ticket for the final in London at an earlier race in the Chech Republic, so he gave his ticket to the guy who finished second. I have a stock M2L with a 19% gear reduction. My only modification was removing the frame pump for some weight saving. 😀 |

Anything can happen once you are in the mix for the win. |
