Return to the fold: which secondhand folder?

Hi it is many decades since I posted on this forum. I've been riding my bike, see. And getting divorced.

Anyway, I had to sell my brompton sl2-x

But then someone broke into my garage and stole my downtube mini and my minivelo. Heartbroken.

I am in a second floor apartment, and I need a cheap, used, folder from ebay or the same.

Mezzos seem good value for money at the moment, but is there anything new in the last 5 years I have missed ?

Many thanks in anticipation.

"..........need a cheap, used, folder from ebay or the same."
I think of all the brands you mentioned; Downtube is in a pretty good price point.
If you were happy with the one you had; maybe just get the same thing again.

Hey gringo gus, the market hasn't changed much at all. Perhaps the only thing to be wary of is the fact that Tern had frame failures during a particular period... I'm not sure the exact dates.

Tern gets a bad rap for the failure. They should for the model but that was several years ago, prior to 2012 IIRC. Consequently they can be had at a low price point!

What's your budget?

My 1st folder was a mid 90's* Mk2 Brompton, Black, (3 speed with a rack) bought 3rd hand ..

on US west coast ...

*went with date stamp on the S-A 3 speed hubshell ..

Got a mezzo

thanks guys. I got an eBay mezzo D9 for abt 220 pounds stlg.

i should have said I am in the UK. The loss of the DT mini hurt all the more because I got it visiting my beloved uncle who lived on a boat in LA and we bought a suitcase from a thrift store and took it apart and sneaked it back to the UK as check in. He got pancreatic cancer soon after so that was it, it I am glad of the memory. That version of the mini with a hub gear was very pretty thing too.

Anyway the Mezzo is on its way, so so am over to that thread, and looking forward to riding out in Manchester UK and points beyond.

Avanti !

Ooooh! So it was you who beat me on eBay!!

Missed out on several Mezzos b4 I got the most battered one in the universe, which I'm regretting now.

if it was from the guy who was selling two, one hardly used, the other used but well renovated, then yes.

TBH I had missed some others too. I used something called esnipe for this one - set a budget, added another 10 quid to be on the safe side, including post, and let that program handle it. It was mainly because I was traveling and couldn't live bid myself, but hey it worked. I'd recommend it.

I'm planning to spend a few days in Manchester soon and have been considering talking my brompton with me. The worn-out roads don't look particularly friendly to small wheels though; I wonder how the Mezzo will fare.

Ah, ok. I'll investigate esnipe.

TBH, I set a max budget which I didn't want to exceed as I had got the the battered one which was the old generation without the re-designed fork. If I had known what I know now (the expensive issues with the one I bought), I would have bid like crazy for the one you got!
