Looking for 20" chromoly frame with horizontal dropouts
 

Hi all,

I've tried to research this independently pretty thoroughly; just want to see if there are any options I'm missing.

I'm looking for a folding bike frame that takes 20" wheels, chromoly frame/fork, with horizontal dropouts. I would like to run a 3 speed Shimano Nexus 3 speed coaster brake hub on said frame, so ~ 120mm rear dropout spacing would be ideal.

It seems like the closest thing to fit the bill would be the Dahon Speed Uno; it appears this was discontinued two years ago but should still be easy enough to get my hands on one.

Are there any other options currently in production? Any good used frames from the past to keep an eye out for?

I would buy fhon gust, a nice horizontal-dropout cromoly frame

The FnHon Gust is a nice chrome-moly steel frame, but it is neither for 20" wheels or horizontal dropouts. It is instead for 305/349 wheels, and has vertical dropouts.

The Vilano Urbana that Delia mentioned above appears to be an aluminum frame clone of the Dahon Speed Uno, which is Dahon's fancier version of the Boardwalk S1. Since they're single speed, they'll have a rear hub spacing of 110mm.

rhenning appears to have 2 Boardwalk D7's which probably have rear hub spacing of 130mm, but are usually 2X+ the price the S1 (unless you can get the same deal as rhenning).

Nexus 3 with coaster brake is 120mm, or 127mm-135mm with their other brake options.

A long time ago, I bought the S1 for the chromoly frame and horizontal dropouts, but I didn't put in a Nexus 3...

I have a Dahon Speed Uno, and I put a 120mm Nexus 3 speed coaster brake hub in the rear,...works fantastic.

Actually mine are both D6 bikes that have been upgreded to be D7s. The grip shifters on both were broken and were changed to thumb shifters. The rest of the drivetrains had a lot of wear so it was easier cheaper to get 7 speed parts. They are also both 2002 bikes but were built in to different Dahon plants. Different serial number layout. I have since in the last month seen another Boardwald for $100. More than you wanted to know. Roger

Coincidentally, I just recently pulled out this Dahon Mariner from storage lol. Bought it used about 10 years ago and I think it's from the early 90's. It came with a 5 speed that I upgraded to a 6 speed, then 7 speed, then added an electric motor that is now on my Boardwalk S1. I reallly like the frame style but the headset is so high maintenance. Haven't fiddled around with it for a good 5 yrs, but doing some maintenance now so lots of the parts are stripped. Originally I thought these came with stainless steel frames, but I believe it's only the hardware (hinge pins, screws, etc) that are stainless.

Thanks to all for the replies. Dahon's website lists the Speed Uno under their "Archives" section and the company does not list the bike amongst their current offerings on their website. I know I can still buy the bike new from various dealers; that was not intended to be the purpose of the thread so much as to get a better understanding of what all of my options are.

Just curious which Schwalbe tires those are ... Marathons?
