My FSIR Spin 5.0 --- 6.8 kg

Hi guys, I see a couple of Spin bike threads here, so now I just want to introduce you one of my Spins.
It was a standard FSIR Spin 5.0, but basically only the frame is kept and all other parts are upgraded.

If you often do some upgrades to your DAHON bikes, then you can do similar things to the Spin, thers is no big difference except the frame.
Since it has no folding mechanism, so a Spin frame is significantly lighter than a regular DAHON 20" frame.
Taking advantage of that, the shown Spin weighs now 6.8 kg. ( When I tried to put on carbon fork/ seat post/ saddle, the weight was just 6.2 kg!!)

Compared with another similar(20", light, fast) folding bike of mine --- TERN Verge X10, this Spin is way more preferred by me and my friends who tried both.

If you can accept its size when folded, I would say the Spin 5.0 (even the standard configuration) is definitly an impressive and interesting folding bike.

Parts of the shown Spin:
Frame/fork/seat post: original
Wheelset: DIY
Hubs: DATI R1
Handle bar: LitePro carbon 99g
V-brake/ Brake lever: RIDEA
Transmission: SHIMANO 6800 / r780
Crankset: SHIMANO 6800
Chain: KMC xl
Chainring: STONE custom
Tire: PANARACER
Saddle: WTB valcon pro
(some small carbon components; Ti bolts)

the temperature is already below zero degree C here, but I still enjoy riding it.

Looks good. Where did you purchase it? I hope to find a Spin 5 someday but it looks like getting one through SoloRock in the US is no longer feasible.

I got it like 4 years ago.
Actually I also have another one with disc brake.
Both versions are no longer being produced, as far as I know.
However, you could still find some Spin frames and bikes for sale here in China.

Makes sense. I've tried to find Spin 5 frames on Taobao but could only find Spin 3, don't know of any other website to try or other potential keywords to type in Google Translate to Chinese for better search results.

You are right. I tried to search but also only found Spin 3.0 frames.
Did you contact www.fsirbike.com ?

Yes, and they do not ship to the US which is unfortunate.

Hello, I also own a FSIR and I am super interested to bring its weight down! Can you please tell me where you got the RIDEA brakes? I have difficulties to find it in Europe. By chance do you have some additional RIDEA brakes or Stone chainring you want to get rid and sell to me? :-) cheers

GTA you had mentioned that you tried the Carbon fork, I cannot find one suitable to the FSIR Spin 5 dimension with v-brakes. Where did you find it? can you please send me a reference or the model? thanks

www.fsirbike.com no longer works. Did they go out of business?

BikeLite 01-18-21 04:36 AM

Website sure does not work. They must have.

Samb76 01-19-21 05:39 AM

Its a shame these are discontinued. A sub 7kg folding bike with 406(?) wheels is a very appealing prospect.
