3 speed IGH

By any chance, does anyone know where i can get a 3 speed rear wheel for my speed uno? i don't care if it has a coaster brake feature or not. i've looked around and it looks like taylor wheels offers one, but nobody ships to the US. i guess i could have my LBS build me one, but that might be pricey.

Yeah, I'd just have your local wheel builder do one (if you don't want to build it yourself). Nothing tricky; straightforward job. Pick out the rim you want. Folks on ebay offer spokes of any length (I trade with Sunny Spokes; fair prices & fast shipping).

SRAM had poor customer & spares support even back in the days when they built IGHs (the i3 has been out of production for years). I'd stick with Sturmey-Archer. Sturmey's aftermarket IGH kits include the shifter, cable, fittings, cog, washers, nuts & etc. Get the model that matches your OLD.

I have the Nexus 3 speed on 1 of my bikes. I've never had a problem with it, and after changing a flat or 3, it's still easy as pie to keep adjusted.

Great little hubs. Shimano has set aftermarket sales up so you have buy the hub, shifter, cog and mounting hardware separately. Forget ever getting an individual IGH component part for repair out of Shimano. They offer only twist shifters* and a limited range of OLDs.

*Sturmey-Archer offers twist, trigger, bar-end, downtube, stick-shift and traditional shifters for their 3s.

Just its easier to get any of the internal parts of S-A AW3 hubs , than to find new spare parts for Shimano..

Though they share the same 3 spline snap ring cog.. 13t to 22t as i recall ...

found a new built up wheel with the nexus hub on ebay, including cable and shifter, so pulled the trigger. no coaster brake, so going to add a rear rim brake. maybe.
