Fat Tire Folding Bikes

I was out riding yesterday and saw 3 fat tire folding bikes in less than an hour. Is this the new trend in bikes or was this a coincidence. I believe that they were electric bikes and so this post may not belong here but still they're 20 inch wheeled folding bikes. They look so weird small wheeled bikes with 4 inch tires. Has anyone on the folding bike forum rode one. How do they ride, can you do light mountain biking with them? I was taken aback to see one after another.

They're electric. Otherwise they would be not very rideable, with 4"wide tires that are 23-24" high and 60 pounds or more in in weight, There are a couple of importers bringing them to the USA for under $1000, and this attractive pricing for an ebike attracts a lot of buyers, many who haven't biked in long time.

I bought one a year ago, not realizing until it showed up that it was pretty hefty. Original price was $779 shipped, but I got a deal and got mine for $704. I don' t do any mountain biking. Occasionally, I'll take a bike thru the grassy trails in our big forest preserve. This can do that. Ridden at 12 mph, it has a nice range. I got close to 40 miles on one charge. I do feel silly riding it on a bike path. LOL. I t ride it at twilight.

We also ride two Downtube folders that I converted to slectric. These are a lot more fun to ride, being 25 pounds lighter and more responsive to pedal effort.
