16"/349 sized rims and tires

Not doing this for a folding bike but since they deal with these sizes more often this seems like the place to ask and I need to build a track bike for my son, I've found a frame that should fit him but its designed to hold a 349 ertro sized wheel.
Rim wise I'd prefer a 28h since I already have 28h hubs but have no problem buying a 32h hub to run a 16h or 32h rim, the kid is still months from being 6 so 16h wouldn't be a problem.
Tire wise I need to find something thinner. I'm told Primo used to come in a 19c tire and found reference to a Joseph Kuosac Strozzapreti 25c tire but can't find anything for either in stock anywhere. I haven't received the frame yet but I suspect it was never meant to handle a 32c which is all I can seem to find easily.

The spec you need should be Brompton ones, google Brompton Rim should get you quite a lot compatible sources. Brompton stock also uses 28 holes.

I've kinda figured out the whole Brompton part which is why I posted here. So far it's done nothing to help me find a decent tire. I mentioned 2 that would be valid but can't remotely figure out where to find them or even if they still exist. Was hoping someone might know legit sites, I'd assume in Asia, where I can actually find them.

Bike Friday pakiT is also the same size as brompton.. I had velocity rims built for my bike (USA made) and run kojak tires. Love both of them. I've had many more flats on tires with tread as the glass and crud gets stuck and works into the layers, but mostly it just ends up pinging off the kojaks and flying away, lol. BF might be able to suggest other sources to you, but if you are here in the US you can easily get Velocity rims. Kojaks are available pretty much everywhere, too. I usually just get mine on ebay from whichever USA source has the best price.

What kind of tire are looking for ?

Race, touring... ?

If a 40mm wide tire fit, then the Greenspeed Scorcher 120 is the fastest in ETRTO 349 [url=https://hostelshoppe.com/products/greenspeed-scorcher-120-tire?_pos=5&_sid=557b8911f&_ss=r]https://hostelshoppe.com/products/greenspeed-scorcher-120-tire?_pos=5&_sid=557b8911f&_ss=r. Scorcher Kevlar is not as fast but has a better puncture protection : https://hostelshoppe.com/products/gr...57b8911f&_ss=r

If 40mm wide is too much, then Schwalbe One is the best fast tire in 35x349. Available only from Brompton dealers.

For touring, the Continental Contact Urban 35x349 is excellent.

If you want the strongest, the Schwalbe Marathon Plus 35x349 is the best choice.

For the rims, the Sun CR18 is a good choice. Another possibility is the Velocity Dyad (former Aeroheat). Ryde has the Andra 20 a very strong rim in ETRTO 349 including a model with CSS.

A good source of Brompton parts including rims and tires https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/rims-16-349/

There are often Velocity rims on eBay.

As I mentioned in my first post, something along the lines of 19-28 though until the frame shows I don't know if it will fit a 28c. This is a velodrome track bike, needs narrow.
I'll have to scope out the velocity on eBay.

ETRTO 349 is the Brompton wheel size. Brompton uses 35mm wide tires. So, 35x349 is the usual tire size in ETRTO 349.

There are almost no narrow tires in ETRTO 349, the only narrow tire is the Joseph Kuosac Strozzapreti 25x349.

If 28mm fits, there is the Velotto Fantome mini 28x349 in black or cream.

Note that these two tires aren't really fast.

The fastest tire in ETRTO 349 (and also ETRTO 406) is the Scorcher 120. This high pressure wide tire was designed to maximize speed.

Kojak is a 32mm and it's almost always slightly under.

I have been pleased in the past with Primo Comets. They seem to be harder to get now.

The Joseph Kuosac I found out from the company is discontinued, they'll be releasing a new tire but not till some time next year, so far I haven't found one in stock.
That Velotto would also work well but also doesn't seem to be available, your link shows it out of stock and a search for it turns up a lot of out of stock pages. It would probably be perfect if not for this friggin pandemic screwing up supplies. At least if does add a name for me to search for.

Primo Comet is probably too wide ?

Long time ago, there was the Schwalbe Stelvio in 28x349. These can sometimes be found on eBay.

Ok,so its the narrow tyres you are looking for. We have One pair Joseph Kuosac Strozzapreti fitted with our demo wheels on shelf, almost brand new. You can have them if you like (in exchange for some photos of this track bike built). Do you have the tubes to go with them? (PM me)

Here you go, 650c and 24". Now little bro wants to join the fun and Harry Havnoonian had a left over frame in 16". We tried him on 20" and it just wouldn't work.
The girl rides for Star Track's junior development team which is the primer track development group in the US. The boy has done 2 semesters, 3 is required to get a jersey and be on the team, Their top team is fast and good. It's also funded by donation and volunteers and is free for youth to join.

Rim: Cerchio Ghisallo, 'Brompton' model, 28º.
Tyre: Panaracer Rapide 16" tubular, 18mm width (typically sold as racing wheelchair component).

The fastest tire in ETRTO 349 (and also ETRTO 406) is the Scorcher 120.

Scuttlebutt from the recumbent world is the TruBlu ISO40x349, 120tpi is faster. No personal knowledge one way or the other.

Some non commercial tires are faster, no TruBlu in ETRTO 406 I think ?.

Interesting
Slightly surprised by the beech option but it could be interesting to make a set of these, I'd have to use walnut and ash since I can get those air dried which is better for bent lamination. Just have to turn them on the lathe after.

Small update. One small frame and fork. This thing is tiny. King headset is from a long gone frame. Now I have to figure out the seatpost and wait for parts.

Now that you have it, did you check the max tire width of your frame ?

I did, being a track bike for a young kid I wouldn't worry about wheels coming out of alignment. A 30c might fit depending on how accurate the tire size is and the rim dimensions. 28c should be comfortable, 25c will be perfect and the 19c that was recommended would look kinda tiny or undersized.
