Brompton Quick/Master link

I've looked, but couldn't find a definitive answer. I know that the chain on my M6R is 3/32" and 100 links (50 tooth chain ring). I like to be prepared so on all my bikes I carry I carry a quick/master link and a multi tool with a chain breaker. What 'speed' is a 3/32" chain? One site said it was a 5, 6,7, 8 speed chain. That's seems to be a pretty wide range so is that correct? Do I need a special brand of quick/master link or will any reputable brand work? My usual LBS sells Sram. Will they work?

Thank you.

SheldonBrown.com says 3/32" chains are used on derailleur bikes with 4 to 8 speeds. SRAM, KMC and Connex all make good master links.
