Lightweight Crankset Upgrade
 

I am seeking advice to find a lightweight Crankset Upgrade of a Dahon.
After disassembling and weighing the Truvativ Elita it turned out to be approx 1kg (excluding chainring bolts).

Right arm: 305g
left arm: 215g
extracting screws x 2: 40g
Chainring and guard: 135g
Isis Drive BB: 306g

1. What are the current options for crankset x1+BB that yield the lowest possible weight?
I would really appreciate it if you can give an estimated weight for the suggestions. THM and lightning are out of budget!

Have you looked at Litepro brand? I just replaced my Dahon crankset to a Litepro (square bracket).

Thanks for mentioning Litepro cranks, yes I have considered the options they provide.

Option 1:
Litepro FanShaped Cranks 366g + Square BB Titanium 170g (lightest I have seen) + my chainring and guard = 670g

Option 2:
(Litepro Cranks + Hollowtech BB) 613g + my chainring and guard = 750g

I think if I am considering a LitePro I'll go with the first option as my goal is to only cut the weight
Did I miss something or is there any tweak for a lighter set?

That's interesting, Did you buy a double chainring and modified it to single?
I would like to ask you if you could also share the difference of weight between the Litepro Crank and the Campagnolo as you said the latter was heavier.

Yes exactly, the only thing you need to change is the direction of the bolts (you can see in the picture in my other post) so that they have grip also on a single chainring, it works.

In term of weight I do not recall the weight of the litepro+bb but it was maybe 20 grams less than the campagnolo+bb. See below the picture of the weight of the campagnolo cranks with the bearings: 480 grams. if you add the bottom brackets cup it is plus 40 or 50 grams = 530 grams in total.
Honestly those additional 20 grams or so worth so much, much stiffer and enjoyable to cycle:

The Campagnolo carbon Super Record crankset of the picture (with "Ultra Torque System" and "11" written in white) is the one with steel axle.

There is another one with a titanium axle that weight less (with "Titanium Ultra Torque" and "11" written in white on a red background).

Now that Campagnolo moved to 12s, this gorgeous 11s crankset can be found at discount price.

Chainrings are 5 arms BCD 135.

For two chainrings, the XPSS system of Campagnolo provide excellent shifting.

Which bottom bracket have you used with your bike ?

litepro stuff are descently light and cheap. I have on the folding/low maintenance bike.
on the gravel, I switched to Sram force 1 carbon 165mm fitted with direct mount chainring and GXP cups at this is pretty light (~450g) compared to the original sram rival crankset (~800g).

I found Sram RED to be light and it comes in two versions, GXP and BB30. Does anyone know which would fit a Dahon ?

yes, you need 68mm GXP BB. both direct mount red1 and force1 are pretty much the same weight, the direct mount can be used with DM chainring or spider or powermeter. There is a rare version or red with integrated spider which is a little lighter (not much) but it seems to be phased out.
The red AXS cranks is lighter (~150g lighter) but is much more expensive

Square taper cranksets can easily be replaced by newer types, like “Hollowtech” or “Ultra Torque” versions. I replaced the square taper crankset in my Birdy with Dura Ace 7800 parts, it was a bolt-on upgrade which didn’t require any fabrication. The Dura Ace parts weighed half what the originals did.

Sorry for my limited knowledge here. I have seen some bottom brackets which act as converters from BB30 to BSA, Would it still be possible to use the BB30 version of the SRAM Red with these converters ?

No crankset only.

650-720g depending direct mount or spider ring. Same as red dm for power meter
