[Brompton] Ready-to-use seatpost sleeve?

Hello,

The seatpost on my 2014 Brompton kept slipping, so I removed it with flat screwdriver + hammer, and then tried the cheap "Aceoffix Seatpost Sleeve"… which is crap — it won't work with Brompton's saddle height insert, and I could push the seat down just by hand.

Before I make an appointment with a Brompton shop to have the original QSTSLV installed, do you know of an alternative sleeve that works well out of the box, ie. with no need for a reamer and special glue?

I saw Makerick3D's recommended, but it's not worth it considering it's €35 before shipping from Singapore and possibly VAT in Europe.

Thank you.

I’ve found that sanding the seat posts with 80 or 100 grit sandpaper roughens it up enough to prevent it from slipping easily, I take the seat post, with the seat attached, and then grip the lower part with the sand paper, and turn the post in circles. A little cleaning in the seat post tub using a small steel brush gives a clean surface, and helps prevent slipping. Another, low cost option would be a second seat post clamp mounted on the post just above the seat tube.

Thanks for the ideas, I tried both before.

Sandpapering the end of the post didn't work, and I'd have to find a way to enlarge the clamp just a bit since the one I got doesn't slide easily so it'd be a bit of a pain to use (although it's a simple solution that doesn't affect the seat post).

I'll confirm after a ride, but with the cheap Aceofix sleeve, it looks like 1) a single layer of… duct tape (two is too much) on the outside, 2) double-side tape added to hold the sleeve in place, and 3) slight tightening of the Brompton clamp does the job: The post slides up/down as before, and the seat stays up even while pushing down hard. It's literally a sub-millimeter job.

Edit: Nope, kept sliding. Even worse than with the original, used Brompton sleeve.

Until I get an appointment with an experienced Brompton bike shop (a reamer is required), an extra 31,8mm clamp does the job. I had to file it down because it had a ~0,5mm edge on its inner ring.

The Nov Design from Korea work well for me.
I used this and no more slip.
You may google Nov Design seatpost sleeve to find out.

Thanks. I have an appointment next week to have it replaced + reamed at a Brompton dealership.

Turns out it was a worn quick release seat clamp, not the sleeve. A new one solved the problem, and works even with the cheap sleeve from AliExpress.

In the meantime, a second clamp on top of the main clamp works fine.

If the sleeve does need to be replaced, I woudn't recommend Acceofix's, as it's incompatible with Brompton's very convenient saddle height insert — you can always get one, and file/cut it if its height and vertical opening don't match Brompton's.
