But if BF manages to clinch a folder that rides (almost) as well as and is (almost) as versatile/standardized as their other models and folds (almost) as well as the Brompton to boot, welll the 16 inch thing becomes a non-issue then doesn't it...? Especially if the price is reasonable and i'd say 900 is fairly reasonable. I am not into 20 inch for the sake of 20 inch but for the advantages it often brings. As for Tires, well if there are 1 or 2 tires in 16 inch that meet my requirements i'd be fine with that. Sure what i would like is the Holy Grail of folders in some ways, but i am hoping someone can pull it of one day. |
@ Spam: ah ok, thx, i was hoping there were more/clearer pics available.
As for modding, yeah i love to mod and i am not fan of the Brompton's non standardization. But i have to agree, the easiest thing would prob. to have two bikes, one ultimate commuter" which could be a cheaper off the shelf Brompton (especially as they are fairly affordable second hand in NL rightaway) and one folder for everything else/touring. Still, i am in no rush, guess i will see in time what end up with, for now am very happy with my 2 folder fleet. |

Are you definining efficiency as drivetrain efficiency, or something else? I wish we had some shops near here that had 16" bikes in stock, or someone with a Brompton. |
That's cool, thanks for posting the article. How long ago was that. Probably said, but I missed it.
I wonder if they thought that model would eat their young. On the one hand it is perfectly reasonable as an extension of their other models. On the other hand it validates as rideable co-equals all the 16" models, and those with big clunky hinges on the main spar. Dangerous. |
The 16 inch wheel (lack of) efficiency thing: i don't know and didn't mean to imply it do or that they must be. But have heard such sentiments uttered and backed by reasonable people that were into 20 inch.
As for the other efficiency, that would be drivetrain/frame stifness which supposively is somewhat lesser on the Brompton. Again i don't know this for as fact, but to my mind it seems plausible. What does seem to be agreed upon by quite some folks is that the smaller the wheel, the more comfort and long/fast descents can (not: are) become an issue. Also the fact is that there are way more (good) tire choices for 20 inch. Thanks for those thumbnails! I must say it looks promising for the most part, i like the super low gravity design (similair to what i have now, probably even better). The der hanging crazy low to the ground would not do it for me but i would prob. run gub gears anyway. Nice bike! @ Peter, interesting notion... i wonder why they put the project on hold. Many reasons could explain it though. But to me the Tikit does resemble (and thus validate) a Brompton or even certain Dahons almost as much as a resembles a BF. |
