Cateye TL-LD1000 on a Brompton

After reading this forum for some time, I've taken the plunge and bought myself a new Brompton S2L. I didn't want a dynamo set-up for various reasons and, admittedly without doing too much homework, bought a Cateye TL-LD1000 rear light. Now I'm stuck how to fit it. Do I need to buy an aftermarket adaptor so it'll fit on the seat post (obviously being careful when I fold the bike)? I'm sure I read somewhere that it could be fitted on the saddle bag thing but I've not got round to buying that yet.
Any advice would be most appreciated.
Cheers
Andy
(PS. I may be back asking a similar question when the front light I've just bought off ebay, a Cateye HL-EL510, gets delivered)

Did the light not come with some sort of fixing in the box? That's a bit odd - In my experience the rear ones usually come with an adjustable plastic hoop - a bit like a wide cable-tie - that fits round even the widest gauge of seatpost (My girlfriends oversize Trek f400 seatpost for example).

Looking up the light on the web it seems to have the standard 'square' CatEye clip so you should be able to find the adapter you need at a local bike store or online. In the UK you can try www.wiggle.co.uk as they have a full compliment of accessories - If in the US I'm sure there are people here more qualified to point you in a good direction. Or try Googling "Cateye Light accessories"

You might have a bit of trouble with folding if you fit it to the seatpost though - so perhaps you need to get one that will fit it to a part of the rear triangle instead - or get one of their 'belt' clips and attach it to your belt, or backpack when riding.

There's a list here of the parts you need: https://www.cateye.com/cat/parts_list...roducts_id=158

"TL-LD120/500/1000 bracket (544-0980)": This is what the light slots into. It needs another part to fix it to the bike. If you want to fit it to the seat-tube you can either measure the tube and get the appropriately sized clamp (listed at the top of the page link I pasted abover - or get the adjustable "Universal Taillight Clamp (544-0892)". If you want to fit it to the small tubing somewhere on your rear triangle - ideally somewhere where it doesn't get in the way when you fold it - then I'd check but you might be able to get one of the smaller clamps to do the job. These all fit with a simple phillips cross-head screw driver.

Or if you want to go for the clip then you need "TL-LD500/1000 clothing clip (544-0900N)"

On CatEye's own site they are costed at a dollar each so it shouldn't break the bank.

Your front one should also come with the quick-release handlebar clip but if it doesn't you'll be wanting either the "H-31 Oversize Bracket - Fits 28-32mm diameter handlebars 533-8825)" or "H-32 Bracket - Fits 22-26mm diameter handlebars (533-8880)" depending on the diameter of your bars - I'm guessing not oversize for your bike but I'd check to be sure. .

Hope that's all some help and you have a lot of fun on your Brommie. What colour is it? We'd love to see some pictures of it!

Thanks for your help LittlePixel. I'm pretty local to Harry Halls in Manchester and it looks like they'll have what I need. Yeah, I will sort out some photos sooner or later.

The seat tube on my Swift is just less than 1 3/8" diameter (it's actually 34 mm). I wanted to fit my Cateye TL1000 which I also use on my standard road bike to the Swift seat tube using a duplicate mount. I found on the Alfred E. Bike website a standard Cateye mounting clamp which fits up to 34.5 mm tubes. The clamp number is SP-8 (Alfred E. Bike #RF1307). They also have the mounting brackets which also fit the LD120 and LD500 tail lights (Alfred E. Bike #LT4057).
