I propose a thread to share simple, cheap and clever little get-arounds for everyday problems encountered.

Tip 1

A super simple handbrake can be acheived by using a hair-bungie (elastic hair tie)
If you have bar-end caps, trap a hair-tie with it then pull the brake on & hook the tie over the lever.
Strida sell a bar end with an elastic already fitted for this purpose.
On my GoBike I find this very useful as it stops the the front wheel from moving, which stops the forks from twisting, which causes the bike to fall over (usually when you are trying to strap something on (the bike! :p ) or when you lock it to a post.

Another trick is one of Steve Parry's, he drills a small hole through the frame just below the point at the bottom of the seat post, when the seat is at the right height, the hole is tapped and a small thumb type screw is inserted. By doing this, you will not need to over-tighten the clamp to keep the seatpost from coming loose and giving you that sinking feeling.

Those loops on a strida are really good - whenever you need to stand the bike up (eg at bank counter, or in corner of office), they lock the wheels - same would apply to any folding bike that can be made to 'stand up' vertically on its wheels (eg swift, dahon etc). so they take less floor space.

As I stated earlier, it works great to stop the bike roling when parked on a hill, by a post, when trying to hitch a trailer etc etc.

Well I'll be dipped ...... that's what those loops are for ...... Cool, those have been buggin' me for a while now.
