No, I have grip shift in a montain bicycle for 9 years and so far so good. Shifts well and precisely, like any SRAM product. I think you are being over sensitive to this technology. Also easy fire from both shimano and SRam make the same type of sound.

I have three bikes with them and like them. Shift anytime with just a twist of the wrist.....I prefer them over any other kind of shifter I've used.
