My Dream Folder
After delving into the folding threads, I now know exactly what I want. A swift Nexus 8 speed hub with a double chainring(low granny). I considered the thudbuster, but I think that I'll go for a sprung Brooks to keep things simple. I am 6' and I love to stretch out so I'll probably it mount a 120mm stem (like James). This baby is going to go touring in different corners of the world, so I'll want some Sunrims and dropbars with cork tape. Has anybody here mounted there red label shifter on drop bars with a hubub mount? If so, how well does it work? I've corresponded a little with Peter. Its true, he does take his time, but no worries because I am in no real hurry. Thanks everyone for supplying the great info!

Copycat! Well almost anyway. I'd take the Thudbuster over the sprung Brooks any day.
I know, I admit that I stole your ideas, but they are great ones! Is the thudbuster extemely plush compared to the Brooks? I guess that I'll just have to try one out.
Not to rehash old posts, or to take over your thread, but you can't mount a front derailler on the Swift, right? This is the only thing that puts me off about the Swift, because I want a double up front. I like just about everything else about the Swift,

Why not fit a schlumf (sp) mountain drive bb up front to counter the 'no go with derailleur" problem. 16 gears and no messy bits on the frame would be an elegant thing even if it's a bit pricey....
I was thought that I would just use the small chain ring with no derailleur. Cheap, and since I would only use it to climb big mountains, I would mindn't changing it with my hand every once and a while. But, yes the schlumpf also sounds like a great idea if I wanted to upgrade later.
I personally think a shaft or belt drive would make swift the best commuter bike on earth.
My dream folder would be a Swift with a (quality) front suspension fork, and disc brakes.
Because I am greedy, very greedy, I would be ok in an Airnimal Chameleon ultima with a complete Campagnolo Racord drive train + ergoshifters. I would keep the original Dura-Ace caliper brakes. The chain of course SRAM PC- 89 R, and finally to introduce a bit of variety, a Selle Italia SLR C64. :D
You can mount a derailleur up front if you want. It wasn't worth it for me. I just wanted a high/low range. The Thudbuster LT is very plush or firm. You decide how you want to tune it. That is the beauty of it. Sort of like suspension on a race car or MX bike.
My dream folder? I already have 2 of them! When I purchased each, I went for modifications to a basic frame with simple components and accessories and got exactly what I want and need for my purposes. I do not care to adopt a "just over the next bend" approuch to my life like Dahon seems to have done. I do not need a "Holy Grail" folder. I just want one right now reflecting what activity is to be done at the moment.

I'm kind of hoping that I will be able to mount the suspension banana seat from the 2006 Schwinn Sting-Ray Grey Ghost 5-speed to my folder:

I am building something orange, with 18 speeds and 20 inch wheels, adjustable stem, trigger shifters, and as you may suspect, it has a TB LT. Pix as soon as I am done.
but I'm keeping the Sunrace M60 rear der. ... at least for now.
My dream folder would be a raleigh twenty w/ Phil Wood bottom bracket, carbon fiber double crank, 20 speed ultegra for the rest of the drive train, 451 wheels, a new pearlescent green and black paint scheme, carbon fiber road handlebars, velocity thracian wheelset, suspension seatpost and fork...well, so far I've got the Raleigh Twenty and the suspension fork and seatpost. I'll have to work on the rest:).
