Montague 26" wheelset

Any ideas where I can get a MTB wheelset for my Montague folder? It is currently set up as a 7 speed so it needs to be compatible with a 7 speed cassette obviously. Can any MTB wheelset be converted to 7 speed? Or does the freewheel need to be 7 specific? I guess there might be chainline issues? Also looking for advice on a cheapish hardside case for my 20 inch full size folder.

Thanks in advance...

Can you build a new wheel around the old hub?

No, I dont have a wheelset at all. I bought it without wheels on ebay (surplus from a company that uses their own hubs to turn folding bikes into electric) everything else is there. Now I am on a hunt for a wheelset and carrycase.

You should post on the mechanics board. My understanding is you have to match your rear hub to the cassette you choose. Your bike probably shipped with a 7 speed shimano mega range cassette. I would stick with that.

As to chain line. I chucked the crankset that came with my CX and bought a road Shimano 105 square crankset on eBay and used only the 42t chaing ring with a 122mm UN-73 BB. The Chainline hits gear 4 dead on.

Hey rped I bought one of those too (paid $179). I had tried test riding a Montigue paratrooper but didn't like any of the componants that came with it especailly the wheels. I found out you couldn't buy just a frame from them and was about to give up when I checked out ebay and found one of those wavecrest frames. I just repainted the frame and (except for the brakes) am building a new bike from scratch. I'm using an internal hub so, I can't give spacifics about wheel/cassette choices that will help you, but I think any MBT wheelset with a hub that matches a Shimano 7speed cassette will work.
