Share your innovative uses for your folder
OK gang, I recently found a used Brompton, and I'm realizing that there are probably all sorts of uses for this bike that I never thought of. It's not really for a specific commute or anything...I just wanted it because it's cool, and I thought I would be able to find little uses that I never thought of. For example, the other day I was going to meet my wife for a movie; instead of driving and having two cars to bring home, I just jumped on the Brompton and met her there for the ride home. Also, I figure I'll leave it in the trunk of my car for a few weeks, and see if I ride it somewhere unexpected.
Perhaps you'll mention something that will spark some good trips for the readers of the board. So, what cool uses have you found for your folder that surprised you? |
I really have not come up with too many uses yet. I bought two of them just because of my bike addiction and they are really cool. I keep the Dahon in my trunk just to go riding around at lunch time at work even though I have a nice fixed gear at work ready to go anytime. They are just a lot of fun when you are used to a full sized road bike all the time.

Also, if you use clipless, remember to keep a spare set of shoes w/cleats. |
Check out my latest adventure on one of my folders:
http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=192198 Although the money's appearance occured while I was riding the Dahon rather than the Brompton, the lesson is still the same. You never run out of things to do while using one of these little wonders. They are so flexible-far more than a run-of-the-mill predictable non portable bikes. |
I reckon this isn't exactly what you have in mind, but bring a folder to any group ride, and you're bound to strike up conversations you wouldn't have otherwise.

if you have a rear rack do all those little trips to the shops that you'd normally only do in the car. Coming back with wine, ice cream and fire kindling feels so much more like you've earnt it if you do it on a folder than in a great big 'as big as a whale' car.

I use my folders for leisure rides and used a 14 inch wheel folder to do the Hike for life.( You can walk ride skate or jog and probably skateboard it)Yesterday i did about 5 miles on my 16 inch fixie.
