KlickFix baskets on Dahon Folders

Hi,

Based on responses on another thread on grocery shopping with folding bikes, I am thinking about one of KlickFix baskets with quick release, although it is not sold in the US. (It's sold in Germany, UK, and Japan, at least.) Does anyone use KlickFix on the handle bar of Dahon 20" folders? Does the bike fold without problem with the quick release adapter mounted?

Speed TR comes with...

I know that the Speed TR (which I have on order and expect to receive in a few days) comes with a klickfix mount on the front, so I'm guessing it won't interefere with the fold.

Of course, the hard part seems to be finding klickfix bags or baskets that are available in the U.S.

FWIW... do a Froogle.Google search search and you'll find many US sellers of Klickfix products. Perhaps not the exact one you want to buy, but several.

I have recently bought the accesory from Klickfix (0211ST) for my Dahon foldable bike. The problem with this product is that for Dahon bycicles you need to use the small plastic adapter, which makes the whole thing to be supported by just one bolt.
As you can imagine, I was carrying less than 5 kg in my basket and the adapter fell off and broke in the middle of the street.
I contacted Klickfix and they say this can't happen... I say that their arrogance doesn't let them see that they have to review the security of this product.
I didn't expect this kind of answer from a supposedly "high quality" brand.
Instead of trusting this crappy product, I recommend something like the Dahon Traveller front rack, which is what I use now (and you can carry whatever basket you need on it).

This may be your story but it is not the full story. You must have used a product tat is not a goos design or you mounted it in the wrong way.

This is a link to the Luggagetruss in use https://www.premiumbikegear.com/biolo...ll-basket.html
Here is a USA site calling it the Dahon luggagetruss. https://www.thorusa.com/accessories/baskets.htm#willow This should work on your bikes and not break under the suggested load.

I have at least two solutions for atatching baskets to the frame but I do not like them much. One (Clickfix) is sticking out so much I would not feel safe it was not damaged if the bike was folded (basket remowed) and traveling with it, like in the luggagecompartment of a bus.

I am thinking of buying the luggagetruss as it is lifting the bag up and keeping it fairly close to the bike.

I bought the brackets ("caddy"?) for the stem but only want to use it for a lighter bag. Would not use it for heavy shopping on a regular basis. I think in the long run it is not good to carry heavy loads to the handlebars, stems or seatposts of foldingbikes.

Are you sure it is one bolt? Mine needs 4 bolts to be mounted to the basket. It is a Dahon plastic bracket that is sold without bolts. The bolts already came with the bike or you can obtain from your authorized Dahon dealer. Make sure you get the right bolts and length and appropriate washers on the bolts or bolt will slip out the basket! I have converted a MEC shopping basket to accept the Dahon adapter and can carry up to the maximum load requirement without breaking on my Speed Duo.

He is missing 3 bolts, probably the wrong length and no anti-slip washers placed. It should be 4 bolts with washer to be secure.

Hoorrraaahhhh Caddys are back in stock
https://www.thorusa.com/accessories/baskets.htm#willow
great very universal attachment point works on the Hnadlebar or Seatpost ....
Also have the Dahon Luggage Truss with Dahon front block ( which I dont like all that much as I actually had a few which broke under a too heavy load, still got them replaced under warranty though ) ANd the much nicer Biologic Truss with original klickfix block ...
AND I found some original Klickfix frame attachment doo dads which are also very strong... only caveat is that they dont lift the basket very high off the tire ....

The Dahon front traveller is not available anymore.... The Tern front "traveller" is only good for small panniers as it doesnt have any platform above the wheels ... very nice for panniers, but noting else unfortunately ...

I would go with a front Klickfix original "truss" and hang not sooooo deep things on the front ... and a Caddy in the rear to hang bigger deeper things on the seatpost ...

I would recommend the front rack option for Dahon bikes without the luggage truss adapter. It is more stable riding wise. I have both the Klickfix stem adapter I bought from Thor and is no longer in stock and the Dahon front touring rack on my Dahon Mu SL and I find the basket is more stable on the front rack.

Opps, it stil say the caddy is out of stock? I would not mind getting this again with a match patch black bag so I cam hang it at the rear of my seat post. What the load specs on this bag pound wise before it breaks with the caddy?

I suspect you are wrong. I think he is talking about the "truss like" Clickfix made black plastic and how it is screwed to the bike, not how the bracket is atatched to the basket. I`ve got one like that somewhere. Did not like the system so did not use it. I would guess many different types has been made trough the years and not all of them perfect.

Did the distance between the two holes on the bike change at some point so that this problem was created? Have I seen bikes now with three holes in the front?

I got one that goes on the seatpost, uses the same wire ring support basket
+ their regular HB mount ..

NB, you can hang Ortlieb HB bags on KF mounts..

the basket (nylon fabric) I have , the support ring is on the top.
so that aluminum truss S bends Upwards to keep the basket Bottom off the tire

Brompton's bag frames OTOH, the mount is on the Bottom of the support frame..

I have only the Dahon sold luggage truss, but it is made of metal with the plastic head in front. It is the 2 bolt kind which fits either a 2 hole or 3 hole front mount -- that's what I was told by my dealer. I have 2 bolts mounted on the truss -- never heard of just 1 bolt on the truss. This truss will mount both Klickfix and Dahon sold 4 bolt plastic bracket, but this Dahon truss head WILL NOT work with the actual Klikfix made bags (I have a few). Klickfix will only mount Klickfix unless you have the Tern version of the Truss which has the original Klickfix head (never tried this but again was told by my dealer as being better than Dahon), whereas Dahon truss adapter will work with both Klikfix and Dahon Klikfix version, which is why I assumed he had the Dahon. The plastic bracket isn't exceptionally strong being 5kg at its limit. Problem is, if you ride on rough roads, you can put more stress on the bracket area causing it to crack or pull away.

This is useful info so thank you for describing it. I suspect the problem was with a plastic (not metal). Lets hope we hear more from him/her.
