Bike lights for Dahon
I'm currently putting lights on my handlebar and seatpost, but ideally I like to find front and back lights that replaces the reflector panels screwed on to the bike itself. This is to free spaces on the handlebar and seatpost. Front light is more important, because I like to keep handlebar free of stuff that I need to remove when folding the bike.
Does anyone know SPECIFIC PRODUCT that can be screwed on to the bike? Thanks |
What type of headset is on the Dahon?( I can't remember) If it is the old syle threaded you might be able to use the old Raleigh style bracket that goes under the headset nut.

For my own Dahon Boardwalk, I use a 30 U.S. dollars simple set of battery powered haligen lights with a blinking rear red light that can be clamped on anywhere. The front and rear light is a clip on style to facilitate the removal of the part without tools after I screw in the handlebar and seatpost clamps. When I use them, the handlebar mounted front light is used as intended directly on the bars. The rear light is actually clip on my back pack that I usually carry. This set up works for me as I tend to fold the bike at least once when on any length of trip.

This one will screw onto a reflector panel: http://www.performancebike.com/shop/...&estore_ID=849
If you've got a Dahon, just attach any old front light to the handlepost rather than the handlebar, Problem Solved. Make sure to get an LED so you don't chew through batteries. |
Real headlights as opposed to front flashers will have more depth to them than will be able to be accomodated in the depth of a reflector. I don't see using any other place but the handlebars for headlights but I haven't found that a problem. On my Giant 1/2way I have a Planet Bike front strobe, no-name ding ding pedestrian amusement device and two Cateye HL500II lights mounted so they hang under the bar. They all have ample real estate without counting the brakes/shifters/grips! When folded the bar first flips over and away from the bike and comes to rest against the bike upside down. There is no interference from the lights or other handlebar mounted accessories. They can all easily be unclipped except for the bell but I have not found it neccessary since if I am folding the bike that usually means its coming with me. There is a single big reflector/rear strobe by Cateye mounted on the seattube. The seat can be lowered without removing it and I find it a much better location than the much lower placement that a spot on the rear deck or fender would neccessitate.

For real night riding (e.g. commuting in the late Fall or later) I have a Performance dual halogen set-up. I should take some pics to show how I put it on, but it only takes a minute or two to get it on and off now that I've become accustomed to the process. The best part is that I don't have to take it on and off all the time -- it's completely compatible with the fold of my SpeedPro!
