How to clean the Dahon folder? There is the ride in rain and road gung and dirt get in crevies for the folding joints? What to do?

I take care of my bikes like the following:

0- after almost every ride I use a clean rag just to remove big junks of mud or something.

About Once a month:


1- Clean what is dirt using water/shampoo and a wet rag, toothbrush and a few toothpicks;

2-Dry everything with a dirt T-Shirt (usually a 5K shirt or very old towel);

3-Lightly lube what moves (pedal, hinges,...);

4- every 50 miles or when it looks ugly, I clean the chain and lube it.

The entire thing takes about 10 minutes unless I am enjoying it, I can extend it to up to one hour.

One thing that is never mentioned with regards to bike maintenance is a good Carnuba wax. Anytime I get a new bike, I give it a really thorough wax, including exposed seat post, non braking surface of the rims, hubs ect. It really helps the clean up process and keeps alot of dirt from sticking. I also find it really helps preserve the paint and I always have a bike that looks close to perfect if I decide to sell it. All the other stuff sounds good on 14R's post. I have to say that you should be sure things are very clean before you oil certain hinges, pivots ect. If not, it can pull more dirt into the component. One of the unexpective perks that I noticed about these type of bikes is how clean they seem to stay. Since my bikes are kept indoors, bagged, and carefully examined and wiped down after use with a clean cloth, they never seem to get dirty like other types of bikes.
