Hmmmm, did I lose a part in the shifter somewhere along the way? My shifter no longer clicks when I turn the dial. The picture below is how the shifter appears with the dial removed. A second picture below highlights a section where I believe another piece belongs to interact with the dial.

Below is a somewhat fuzzy image of the shifter's dial. One can see the slots where something would hold the shifter in place for each gear.

(1) Am I right about this?

(2) Any idea where I can get the part? I can buy a new shifter online ...

Aha!!!! I found a small white plastic piece that looks like the following end bracket ... {.

Took apart the vacuum cleaner bag and there it was.

Heh, that was the bit I warned you about! :D Mine fell out too, it was covered in plastic grease and fell right into a spot on the floor covered in grit and hair.
