I got this folder on ebay - a Revan, no idea where it comes from. Haven't googled it yet.

Steel frame, 35mm seat post, coaster brake, 406 wheels - surprise - alloy rims, Pletscher carrier rack, alloy mudguards.

It folds to the right! Protected drivetrain. :)

To fold, loosen this steering post bolt/lever, it works like any quill stem, but simultaneously loosens the bars so these can be rotated down.

Inside the seat post, I found this pump!

Indeed you are missing a fixed folding bicycle!

Nice seat. Looks like it came from europe.

SesameCrunch 09-25-07 09:02 AM

Wow, did it come with the Brooks saddle?

jur 09-25-07 03:32 PM

Oops, sorry, no, I installed a spare Brooks B17 I had. The original saddle is a black plastic padded affair similar to the Raleigh Twenty's.

Googling yielded no results.

I have a Sachs Torpedo Duomatic geared hub for it. Coaster brake which also switches between the 2 speeds. That will preserve the potential clean lines. A second wheel will be for a fixie as per caotropheus's suggestion.

I just realised this bike has a better fork that the R20. The R20 fork dropouts are just the fork tubing pressed flat and slotted. This one has a brazed dropout.

I think I'll be giving this fork the same rake-reducing treatment I gave the R20 fork.

One thing that bothers me is the lack of a bracing tube behind the frame hinge. It puts a lot of stress on the back joint where the downtube joins the seattube. I am toying with the idea of having a strut brazed in there. Any opinions on this?

I agree with you. My Kama bicycle also lacks this bracing tube but the downtube is pluged to the seat tube by a massive lug. Beside that I only weight 54 km and I do not believe I can apply much stress on the frame. Your frame is just a pipe welded on a pipe and you should braze a strut.

Jur, one final question: Are you going to use 451 rims?

I thought I would, yes. I checked and they would fit.

I have a spare 406 front wheel and a matching back wheel on a SA 3sp hub; I was thinking of using that for the Sachs Duomatic hub I'm getting except the holes don't match (36 hub, 28 rim) so I have to consider spoke lengths carefuly. That may be interim.

I stripped all the cluttering items off last night and it's looking a lot better already. At this stage it reminds me of v1nce's R20.

The headlight seems to be inspired by Soubitez as in this Ebay listing:
