Strida 3 vs 5, weight?
 

Something I noticed here http://www.strida.us/features.htm that I didn't see elsewhere...

Strida.us specs page says the 5 weighs a kilo less than the 3.
Strida.ca specs page says they weigh the same.

Anybody know for sure? Chop, maybe?

Diana at Strida.us tells me the weights of the mk3 and mk5 are basically the same, and they will be correcting their website shortly.

My best guesses:
Plastic replaced with Al in drive train parts.
Metal wheels (probably Al.)
Disk brakes.

Actually they don't seem to sell the metal wheels on the 3.2 any more. Does that mean I own an orphaned bike, or do I own a rare metal wheeled Strida, sought after by Billy Burg trust fund kinds circa 2050. I may be wrong but the parts section is greatly reduced, and they do not seem to have parts for the metal wheels listed.

As it happens Velovision has just done a big write up on the Strida 3.2 & when weighed it came in at 9.98kg,
My 3.2 is now a sort of 3.3 (i.e. it has been upgraded to aluminium rims, but does not have the little roller that stops the belt from jumping) I'll weigh it when I have a minute!
My Strida 5 has a much heavier (but much more comfortable) sprung flame saddle and a few bolt on goodies so it would be difficult to weigh it acurately, I'll ask Strida Amsterdam to weigh one. Watch this space.......

Oops, damn busy R & R lifestyle, will try them 2moro.........hopefully
My 3.3 is 11.2Kg including mirror, brackets & small rear light
my Gobike is 19Kg in riding mode, i.e. more lights than you can shake a stick at, Brompton block & bag full of spares, pump, repair kit, chainoil, spare lenses etc. etc.
Just fitted new improved Reelight on the rear of the GoBike, better magnet fittings for spokes, capacitor to keep light flashing for 2 mins when you stop,just fit & forget, no batteries, love them, haven't figured out how to fit to Strida or Gobike front.......yet!

Hello Chop!, I was reading about your tour in VV December 2005 yesterday :-)

I removed the clear reflector from my Strida front wheel, & used the spoke screw hole to mount a magnet for my wireless bike computer. There is another screw hole in the adjacent spoke, so I wonder if you could maybe use those, or is it a necessarily very short distance between light & magnet that's the problem?

Have you got a pic' of the setup on your back wheel on the Gobike?

Then I remembered, Chop!, that you don't have plastic wheels.........

I've just read that the 120's aren't as bright as the 100's. Is that your observation? I can't find a decent pic' of how they're mounted as I see there's a folder specific version.

Thanks for the suggestion, nice thought, but as you rightly point out I have the far superior spoked wheels on both Stridas. Actually, that is not the problem, the magnets attach to the Strida's spokes with no problem, the problem is that I haven't yet figuered a way to attach the spindle bracket to a single sided fork or rear as they don't have axle nuts protruding.
Very chaotic this week so sorry, still haven't spoken to Strida NL :o

Any other threads you'd like to tell me whether I can or cannot reply further? If I think there is more to this thread then I'll reply regardless of other people's blanket statements!
So was that a Strida 3, Strida 3a or a strida 3.3 that is the same as the 5? LOL! ;) & how would Diana know? They told me the 5 didn't exist, & they don't stock it or has that changed?
Has she read about the weight? I like the Guys & Gals @ Strida UK, but I don't like it (edit by Mod), I was told by Steedman Bass that the Strida 5 didn't exist & that the photos of the 5 I sent
him were a private customisation by an Asian enthusiast, yeah, right! A few weeks later Presto Hey! I get to buy one from Amsterdam, that enthusiast must be very enthusiastic! LOL!

Ah, Chop - so very sorry if my wording offended. All I meant was that the original question referenced in the title of the thread was answered. The email I received meant was from Diana at Strida US, not UK - and according to Strida.us, she's their supposed expert on the bike.

BUT - if you have a gripe with Strida UK - I sure wouldn't try to stop you from venting. Nor would I be upset about posts you had any other subject. But wouldn't it be easier for the rest of us to following any of those subjects in their own threads with an appropriate title, instead of crying (edit by Mod) under a thread with a completely unrelated title?

I totally agree about Strida Uk ... really nice people ... but would love to have Strida 5 available in UK, even at a higher price (Uk Strida prices are OK .... its the other bike co's that seem to cash in on the high pound).
