The R20 project pretty much done!

Hi folks...

I'm happy to say that my R20 project is pretty much done.

http://21oaks.net/r20/img/headerpic.jpg

I have a small web page up now which includes pix and a parts list for any one interested located at...

http://21oaks.net/r20

Have a look, and would appreciate any feed back.

Thanks lots.

Great bike! From your Web site, looks like quite a bit of effort went into it.

MnHPVA Guy 12-08-07 07:53 PM

It makes no sense at all to put that much work and money into an R20.

Which is why I love it. You're my new hero.:D

If Jane ever questions how much I put into upgrading one of mine, I'll just show her your web page.

jur 12-08-07 08:18 PM

That's simply brilliant. It's worth spending that much effort and money on a R20 because it's such a sturdy frame, it probably won't let you down. Ever. Ready for touring.

LittlePixel 12-08-07 09:15 PM

You've upped the game there - beautiful in the detail and clarity of function - I'm sure you couldn't wait to start showing it off. It's a lovely blue. Nice job sir!

They seem to be popping up all over the wheres...
I'm doing an R20 with a Sram Dual Drive and 9 spd, a flat bar and Ergon bar ends, 105 brakes, the Brooks and Stelvios.
I have it trussed up like a christmas turkey spreading the dropouts.
I'm getting as much off ebay as I can but you don't mod an R20 to save money I realise.
Little Pixel, Jur (and your Tasmanian trip), stevegor and others are an inspiration - but you have cost me a small fortune.

Sammyboy 12-09-07 05:13 AM

Yep, and I'm still on my 7 speed Nexus, deep section rims etc project....

juan162 12-09-07 09:57 PM

Nice job, Sammyboy...it makes me want to strip the parts off my Twenty and get it powdercoated. Better yet, some pearlescent orange paint - not as durable as powdercoat, but tons of bling! :) In all seriousness, it does make me want to do more mods - it really is a sickness, isn't it?

saanichbc,

Bike looks GREAT!!

But I just gotta ask ..... why/how are your chain, sprockets, etc. on the left side of your bike?? I don't think I've ever seen this before.

saanichbc 12-10-07 09:33 AM

HAHAHAHAHA!!!! :roflmao:

You are the only one that caught that so far!

Welp, lets me tells you.

In the original pic, the bike was facing the opposite direction. For some reason, didn't look quite right.

I didn't feel like toting the bike back out into the back yard, so I simply 'mirrored' the pic so that the bike is facing the direction it is now.

I wondered if anyone might pick up on what you discovered, so, decided to just leave it the way it is.

My apologies to anyone who missed this. I intend to take more pix of the bike soon and the pic will display correctly.

See I didn't pick up on it 'cos the mirror is set up just right for UK roads!
I've done the flip trick with the thumbnails of other twentys on my site - they all faced one way 'cept for one so I just had to... hehe.

jakub.ner 12-13-07 09:33 PM

LOL, I did wonder why the mirror changed sides when comparing with other pics on your site.

saanichbc 12-14-07 09:35 AM

I'm hoping to take a few more pix of it this coming weekend, and will replace that pic with another. My wife's R20 is due to begin reconstruction late this January. Pretty much the same as my own, but she wants a different colour to match her burgundy Arkel bags. :D

fmattheus 12-14-07 10:25 PM

Nice rebuild, Harv! That bike looks awesome!!!

One question. The mirror looks like a mirrycle. How is that connected? Is that a custom attachment job?

saanichbc 12-15-07 09:45 AM

Thanks lots!

Yes, it is a Mirrycle mirror, modified to be mounted to the handle bar vua a Minaura (sp?) water bottle mount.

:D

Genious! Thanks for the tip.

Dude, your bike is Phat...

I know its a cardinal sin to ask what something costs on a R-20 :) , but what did the frame work cost you?
Do you ever feel like you are close to having clearance issues with the 170mm cranks?

Stellar "Retro-Glo" saanichbc !... Again the bar is raised on the R-20...

Phatatude- "They all smiled as it unfolded..." sho-nuff :)

Take a peek... all your friends are doin' it! (peer preasure :)

Thank you!

I see that the pic is lost on my original msg because I had renamed it, and have a different pic up that is not a "mirrored" image. So, I will repost a pic of it again here...

http://21oaks.net/r20/img/headerpic.jpg

...ahh, that's better.

To tell you the truth, I'm not sure of the exact cost, but, I would think it was probably around $150 or so. Max did do a fair amount of work to the frame.

The powder coating took the longest to get done. It was at the powder coaters for "5 weeks"!!! Not sure is that is typical anyplace else, but around here in slooooowwwww motion Victoria, that would be typical. Hey, it's about the only place in town that will do bike frames. :(

Everything seems to fit and work about right.

I might entertain a 2nd ring on the front with a chain tensioner, but the jury is still out on that thought.

I can't wait for the better weather to get here!

My wife's R20 reno will take place later next month!

Can't wait for that fun!

People in Canuckistan are nuts to be spending so much time and energy in modding out those decrepit old R20's.

So says one of those nuts in Canuckistan... who has a decrepit old P20... that is slowly getting modded out.

Cheers!

saanichbc 12-24-07 08:57 AM

Yeth... we are a berry nutty bunch of people here in Canuckistan.

Canuckistanis are Happy, but Nutty.
