This thing is rocking! It doesn't fold as nicely as I'd hoped but it's performance is impressive. Also, packing and unpacking is a snap. I used the instructions to put it together the first time and had no problems. After re-packing it I didn't need the instructions for the second assembly.

The first test ride was short but impressive. I'm going to have to get used to the bar end shifters though.

If I may ask, how was the shipping to Canada? Was it expensive? Any problems with holdups by Customs?

When I ordered my Tikit the only shipping option to Canada was FEDEX and they charged $150US to get the bike to Calgary in 3 business days. Given the size/weight of the box I would have been happier to pay less than $75 to have the Tikit shipped USPS even if it took an extra week.

I've only had one item come from the U.S. via FEDEX surface and that was a couple of years ago. The item cost about $40. and the shipping was about $10. About two weeks later I got a bill in the mail for $40 brokerage fees! I thought I'd wait until second (or final) notice before deciding if I would pay this outrageous bill. I never heard another thing from them. It seemed to be an automatic, computer-generated money grab.

Another item sent via USPS sat in customs for two weeks (although, to be fair, most weren't held up at all). When it does happen, however, it's stressful as no one is really sure where your package is.

I know that many U.S. vendors have limited their shipping options to simplify their own operations, but also to cut down on the complaints about surprise costs (like brokerage) over which they have no control.

I have gotten used to the fold difference vs. our previous Boardwalk D7s.

Here's the mounting board I just finished for taking them in our vehicles - the 4Runner is used when we travel pulling our folding Aframe trailer and we have a Yaris Liftback for around town. It will also fit nicely in the Yaris with the 60% side of the back seat folded down flat.

These pictures are of the 4Runner. The box next to it holds our Coleman BBQ/Camp Stove. I have since installed quick releases on the smaller clamps, too. They eliminate any possibler rattles vs. the bolts used here.

I have fabricated felt sleeves to protect the handle bar stem, and a canvas duck bag for each front wheel. There will also be three pack straps holding each bike together. Doesn't take much time once you get used to doing it.

(The bikes do NOT touch each other.)

The loose handlebars is really the only thing I don't care for, I'm thinking there must be some way to make a clip in holder and put it where the bottle holder sits.

I like the 4 runner set up; very nice.

FedEx was the only shipping option unfortunately. I have never once had a good experience with Fedex. The shipping costs were covered by BF as part of a special they were having.

If you can come up with one, I'd like to steal your idea, too.

We are lucky to be close to the factory and driving the 125 miles down to Eugene made it easy to pick up our bikes in person.


I must admit I stole this idea from some pictures I saw on a photo site. A couple from Tenn. (I think) has come up with a mounting set-up on the back of their motorhome for two BFs. They must have had access to a machine shop, because it was made out of nicely machined Aluminum. What I stole was the idea of removing the front wheels and mounting the bikes with two quick releases for Front Forks & Seat Stays.

I have a small amount of wood working skills and equipment, so I went that route. (Not having a machine shop at my disposal kept me from getting too fancy.) Their's was an outside storage option, so it had to be more robust, secure and covered, too.

I have fabricated felt covers for the handle bar stem post, and sacks for the front wheels out of medium weight, black canvas. Now I need to encourage the wife to sew them up.

I will work out the details and likely post a thread with pictures of the results. My wife liked the quick, simple and neat fold of our previous Dahons, but they still had to be secured for travel and protected from banging into each other. More importantly, she recognizes there is a BIG difference in the ride quality.
