Dahon Boardwalk question on the handlebars

I just picked up a very nice Dahon Boardwalk 6 and the handle bars are tweeked and need to replace them. They are one piece and was wondering what was recommended to replace them.

Do I need to take out the stem to determine if it is a 1" or 1 1/8"?

If it's a Boardwalk 6 it is most probably a 1", but I would check, just to be sure,
