Classic eBay Idiot

I find this auction really funny: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA:IT&ih=018 - it's a "Jeep" folding bike with a starting bid of $345 plus $60 shipping.

Why? Well, check out the guys reputation: just a score of 1. Now check out where he got it from... a seller who sold him the EXACT bike 4 weeks ago for $70. What a great guy! He's even ripped the text from the other auction.

I guess it's easy money if he clears $300 on the deal...

If it is a genuine Jeep approved model it I'd have thought it would be a good quality item, so must be worth closer to $345 than $70, no ? Maybe the idiot is the guy who sold it for $70 in the first place.

Hear hear Diode100! :roflmao2:

Are you against someone making a profit on a smart acquisition. Why is he ripping anyone off if he knows the true market value? Good luck to him if he has got the starting price right! A feedback of 1 doesn't necessarily denote a poor reputation but a new user account. Yes the risk is higher but people have to begin somewhere.

He could have made more effort with the listing though and posted original pics to reassure people.

Well in two days we shall find out if he has any luck in his little venture.

I'm backing the guy as if you are too silly to do a little research then you deserve to get ripped off now and again! (not that I believe he's ripping anyone off)

For clarity - i don't mind people making money on eBay. That's the whole point of it. The daft thing is that we can clearly see his margin... and the implied fact that if you look around long enough you can also get one for a fifth of his starting price. Lets see what happens here!

LOL and yet you called the guy an idiot. Looks like your backpedaling skills are well developed.

Are you the guy who sold it for $70? :-)

I am not commenting on the price itself, as it hasn;t sold so we have little insight into the value, but simply wanted to comment on the irrelevance of the purchase price in the equation.

I agree, that's why I'm trying to sell a new Aerospoke front wheel for 350 - they go for 300 on the website, but you'll have to wait 2 months AND pay shipping ~20.00

Just to clarify, the ACTUAL value of this item (retail price) is around $120 (if I remember correctly). I see them on base all the time at the PX. In fact, I highly doubt there is excess demand for the product. He purchased the bike at a 'normal' used retail. Now he's just trying to flip it.

Well they are $399.99 here, and they are apparently sold out.

But Hey, what you learn quickly with ebay is that something is only worth what someone else will pay for it, so good luck with selling your wheel !

I just realized the one I'm thinking of for $120 is not the folding version, it's another cheaper one. Perhaps the guy selling for $70 did the same thing I did? Thought it sold for ~120 and put it up for ~70? This guy saw it and nabbed it to flip it?

That's my hypothesis at least.

Dynocoaster 05-22-08 08:08 AM

I went back and read who sold it and he stated that he paid $220 and used it for two years.

DenHyde 05-22-08 09:19 AM

No,what he said was that he weighed 220 and has had the bike for 2 years.

Klaw 05-24-08 10:09 AM

He's not an idiot for trying to flip it... but he is an idiot for either not hiding his feedback or at least waiting 60 days so the "view item" gets grayed-out and no one can see what he paid for it.

jwlunt 05-24-08 10:19 AM

looks like he now has three for sale... gets stranger...
