Happy new Year Sesame... Vintage pootling - looks just great. I love the Redwoods - when we were over a couple of years ago we went to Muir Woods in Marin county, (just north of SF over the bridge) and I was just blown away by the majesty of them.
That and the feint possiblilty of seeing an Ewok ;) The Jag... V12? What a classy boat! :) I've been pootling to work on the Mercton over the past few days - it's seen it's first real ice, snow and salt. Poor thing looks like it's been on the Paris Dakkar rally. Running nice with a [slightly] narrower Ti BB giving the perfect chainline it didn't quite have, and all the more fun now I can never get lost with my iPhone GPS. I shall endeavour to get a pic of it next to a Dalek. |

You're on! Better clear your calendar !
I'd be up for another ride there, it's very beautiful. |

I've been for a similar circuit just south of there. Up from Pescadero over the ridge, amongst the trees, and back over the ridge again.

I'm in for Feb 10th or 11th. But I know how the weekdays are.
I'm free on weekdays. Why don't you pick a day and time that works for you. I'll start a new thread and throw and invitation out there. We'll see who can join us. |

Afternoon ride in -10C. Testing new setup on this bike and new studded tyre / chain.
|
Can you give more info on the chain (which looks like a segmented plate-like thing)?
|
The type used for key chains or dogs choaking collar. Twisted and flattened in a way. I decided to use nylon line in stead of metal wire to hold it together. Chain is totally ok and much kinder to bags, cars boot, flors and so on than studds.

So glad that this pootle thread has picked up again... well, here is my Speed Pro awaiting to board the ferry from Changi to Tg Belungkor, Johor, Malaysia. Did a 106km round ride to Desaru, a beach resort. Tested my touring version of the SPro - 2.0 Big Apple in front, 1.6 Schwalbe Marathon Supreme behind. Extremely comfortable and very pleased with the setup. http://lovethefold.blogspot.com/2008...lly-yoked.html |

Great! You'll be visiting from NY?! Where will you be staying? In SF? We could do a ride over the Golden Gate Bridge and into the Marin headlands (if you don't mind a little climbing). Stunning views of the City and Ocean.

I love climbs. I'm in Thailand at the moment and will visit family in the Bay Area before heading back home. I can take BART into the city and we can start from there. Any time is fine with me. |
I like that Moulton.

Hi PM124,
Fav tour in Malaysia? Really depends on where you are as Malaysia is a pretty big country. Umm, cycling down the East Coast of Malaysia from Kota Baru to Kuantan is very nice coastal riding. Cycling up Frasers Hill is nice too. Touring the island of Langkawi is fascinating. Poodling around the historical cities of Malacca and Penang is v interesting too. Hope that helps :) If you are on a folder, then consider using the excellent train. The Jungle Train that cuts into the heart of the Taman Negara National Park is breathtaking. Where will you be entering Malaysia? North in Kedah, flying into KL or from Singapore? Oldy |
Pootling today at 55N - winter, but quite warm at 47F.
I've been pootling again. Please excuse the slideshow. I never made one before, but it has a 'banging' track on it. I'd like to be able to put music on proper video, but I don't have any software to do it besides Google Picassa and it won't as far as I can see.
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=6FaJSh95LQQ I have some proper movies of my ride, but when I upload them the darned things fail. |

I like this thread, but can we come up with another name besides "pootle?" To me, that sounds more like a bodily function often associated with overconsumption of beans.
How about "toodle?" Or "meander?" |

lol - You're far too polite Alan - it's rubbish!!! I need to learn about this stuff. I also need some better software. The digital camera can do reasonable movies in 640x480, but you can't add music to them to make them more bearable. The camera only produces an Apple format (.mov) so I can't edit them to add titles, soundtrack and so on using MS Moviemaker. If I convert them to AVI (which would allow me to edit them in Moviemaker, I'd have to buy additional software, which being as tight as a shark's arse (watertight) I'm not really prepared to do. I'd rather spend money in other ways. So - there's my moviemaking career at an ignominious end.

Thanks. Anyway, whatever it's called, I love threads with pics of bikes on tours. When I get a folder one of these days, I'll contribute.

Yes - I just have no experience of it and when I did try a few years back it was all black screens and unknown commands like in the bad old days of MSDOS - but you're probably too young to remember that.
Anyways, I bought a Linux machine for my son this autumn and are planning on building a stationary one with Linux, maybe also XP on the same machine for some of his games. Bag is on its way by the way. :thumb: And all this has got nothing to do with pooteling... |
Great pics! Thanks! Nice bikes too, I can appreciate them. :)
