Advice needed: might have a line on a Brommie...
Hi gang...
just asking for some advice. I might haven an opportunity to buy a 3 year old Brompton M3L with the larger, adjustable seat post. What would be a good price for it?

Lots of vIews... no replies. Surely there is someone that can give me an appraisal and advice?

A new M3L here in the states goes for $1075 at which seems to be about an average price for the bike. How much does a bike like this depreciate after a few years of regular use? $300? More? Less? Just trying to come up with what's fair.

I just saw one for sale in Vancouver BC for $400 , I emailed the person and never received a reply. A ML3 on Ebay recently went for $710.

Here is one in the San Francisco area

If it's in good condition & been properly maintained, I wouldn't have thought any more than a 30% drop in value, especially if it comes with any of the luggage options.. It's not uncommon to find folding bikes up for sale that are practically mint, people buy them on a whim, and then never use them.

That one in the sf bay area comes with a lot of accessories... but is also a few years older. But it gives me a pretty good idea on what to look for.

I went and checked to see what completed auctions for M3Ls looked like on ebay... and the lowest was 325. That's about $650... with the average around 400 ($800). I know that the British market for these is a bit more robust so a direct comparison may not be the best, but it should be close enough.

Thanks for the link, Dyno. :)

p.s. I have checked with my wife... and she's ok with the purchase.

And... then I got the letter in the mail stating my property taxes are going up. I could almost feel those Brompton handlebars in my hands. Oh well... a few more months won't kill me.
