kid got his tikit robbed
hi,
I'm passing this from Craigslist Toronto. I hope the bad Karma will come to the robber
Stolen: Bike Friday Tikit -- Reward - $250 (High Park)
Reply to: sale-773844048@craigslist.org

My 12 year old son was just robbed by a man who confronted him one block from our house (Indian Road Cres and Abbott), who told him he'd be hurt if he didn't get off the bike. The bike was a Bike Friday Tikit that we'd bought just two hours before. It's also distinctive: white paint with black markings, unlike most which are black with white markings. https://www.bikefriday.com/tikit
Of course I realize that many many bikes are stolen, but relatively few are robberies, and the idea of a 12 year old being threatened to get a bike really is awful - my kid or any other.
And so I'm appealing to the cycling community in Toronto to help. If you see a white Bike Friday Tikit going by, the theif was about 6 feet, medium build, medium brown skin, wearing just grey shorts and a sweatshirt over his shoulders, let me know: 647 502 3398. Any suggestions as to where to post greatly appreciated.
The theft has been reported to Toronto Police.

Wtf -
I am from Toronto and I am completely shocked. This is really scary and such an awful experience . I hope the little guy is doing alright and does not feel guilty for loosing his bike. I hope they will be able somehow to locate the stolen bike and hopefully the police will arrest that ***** he@d who took the bike from the little guy.

I live in Toronto -- I'll be watching as well. I think the little guy will need some time to settle down.
I haven't spotted a single tikit yet in TO... several dahons and a RS halfway, and a bazooka so far. but strangely, after getting this folding bike bug, these bikes just grab my attention. and i shall follow the white tikit on my white DT 8FH!

Check craigslist/ebay. The theif may sell it there, or maybe the person that buys it for $200 will try to get $800. I would check all listings for $300 or more for a few months. You might also ask at LBSs, the theif may try to unload it there or atleast get advice there. You might also post a no questions asked reward. I would guess the bike is still in the area. Also post to the Bike Friday msg board, Bike Friday people are the ones most likely to buy one. If you see someone on a old bike, ask where you can get a used bike. There might be some flea market you never knew existed.

this is terrible! the bike is still probably in the area, how about do a small search around your local area to try and find the bike, look in peoples gardens etc.

What a scumbag. So sorry to hear this.
Hope the lowlife coward thief gets caught and the kid gets his bike back unscathed.

Luckily, it's a unique looking bike.
Maybe photocopies showing the bike, a description and the Serial number posted at Libraries, Walmarts, post offices, bike shops, shopping malls, cafes, grocery stores, bars, clubs, corner telephone poles....etc would help.
