They're back!

In delightful orange fizz, the HH5 differs from its bonkers brother the HH7 mainly in 8 speed cassette, Marathon Race tyres instead of Stelvios, and Ritchey straightbars. Long-suffering Perusers of Peculiar Bicycles will note my happy conversion of HH7 to riser bars, and subsequent near arrest near Buckingham Palace at the weekend. The HH5 looks to be as speedy and wild as the HH7, with even more bonkers paint and almost the same weight.

And ya get that suspension too. If 8 speeds are enough, these bikes are a startlingly fast ride. Probably less twitchy than the HH7 due to the Marathon Racer tyres, which is a gOOD tHing..

Ugh, AAAAARGHM , I gotta have one......

Help me.............

mulleady 08-06-08 02:19 AM

You have to buy this in orange Snafu to add to your orange Downtube! :)

Nice bike actually. I rode a HH in Hyde Park belonging to some dodgey Englishman :P

Does the Hammerhead fold or separate in anyway? Or is it like the Dahon Groove where only the seat and handlebars go down?

datako 08-06-08 02:44 AM

They don't appear to actually have any in stock...

I've got one converted to single speed. It's an absolutely brilliant little bike - climbs like a goat.

Doesn't fold, but I have removable pedals on it and it fits almost anywhere because it's so small.

Myqul 08-06-08 02:46 AM

What exactly was you doing to nearly get arrested near buckingham palace

I suspect Sanfu25 snapped them all up! A whole fleet of orange bikes now

snafu21 08-06-08 02:49 AM

Ya pulls out the seat, whips out yer Y Allen Wrench (supplied), and either pull off the bars, or turn them 90 degrees. The front wheel turns through 180 degrees, for stowage, or you can pull it off with the QR to pop the bike in the rear of your economy hatchback. So it's not a folder, more of a flat pack.

With folding pedals it will fit under a bed..

Nigel 'Yellow Jersey' and Diode 100 both had a go on the *******ised HH7 with MTB riser bars at the weekend, and pronounced it 'fit for purpose' for urban use, the bars being prefferred over TT bars for stability.

I presume the HH5 will feel similar- the flat bars aiding visibility and standing up on the pedals pumping the b*****d.

mmmmmmmmmmm. It's in Orange glitter, too. Comes with these droolsville doo-dads:

Here's my weird MTB version again:

Attempting to subvert the Nation's security, by asking a policeman if it was ok to go through a red light on a road closed to traffic, to let the army through.

Snafu stopped some short distance in front of a white line and asked the policeman on duty if it was ok to proceed. An innocent occurance you might think, but under our hightened anti-terrorism state of awareness, it seemed to be viewed as a highly provocative action. There was a look of fear on the coppers face face when he realised that he alone stood between the safety of the realm and three outlaw riders. Being unarmed, and not able to shoot, he did the next best thing and ordered Snafu to dismount, and retreat on foot back up the Mall. He certainly earned his money that day, and no doubt there was a note in gordon Brown's red dispatch box that very night. Expect an extra tax levy on folding bikes in the Uk as soon as parliment re-sits, we cant have these people menacing the Household Cavalry, can we.

It's those lairy Hammerheads, they strike the Fear of God into members of the Constabulary... They quite obviously are VEHICLES OF TERROR in these troubled times. Thank the Lord I wasn't riding an orange one.

Do you remember Grahame Green's 'The Quiet Amercan' in which a bicycle pump, laced with explosive made from milk, is used?

Our policeman friend was obviously a literary man. Perhaps he thought I was going to blow up The Queen.

mulleady 08-06-08 05:34 AM

And the police wonder why we don't want to help them or have lost our respect for them. That kind of sentiment used to be confined to thugs and criminals, not anymore. It's all very sad really.

Finally got the Hammerhead 5.0 out from under my desk at work and cycled it home for the wife yesterday. Thoughts - very upright compared to the 7.0. Marathons were stable, bike felt fast. You can get a 1 bolt NVO stem from Greyville.com for about £30 if you want to fit a quick release bolt (although NVO do not rec this). Will post photos this weekend.

snafu21 08-06-08 09:05 AM

Will post photos this weekend.

Damn you Sir, and your orange glittery paint, for your vile teasing of our tortured minds!!!

Oh! Cripes!! QR stem!! Never even thought of it. I have a spare QR thing-bolt someplace.

<scampers off>

I'm upset because even if they had some in stock, still couldn't afford one :(

jur 08-06-08 05:49 PM

That's a seriously nice bike for the price. I like the 5 better than the 7. That color is... well let's just say it floats my boat.

The foldinitis virus reminds me of the Borg in Star Trek:

'Resistance is futile'

And Snafu you have the advanced stages of the infection. I anticipate capitulation if they come back in stock :P

Sammyboy 08-07-08 04:24 AM

Snafu, you definitely need one of these frame stickers for your bike:

Careful there, Snafu. You're going to end up like me  !!!

snafu21 08-07-08 10:16 AM

The bug has bited. I upgraded the already useful dual pivot calipers on the Hammerhead to Ultegras today. I now have brakes that are either on or off.

It's quite exciting, skidding to a halt in front of old ladies with smoke coming off both tyres...

Don't talk to me about HH5's. My g/f, bored with me 'upgrading' the HH7, stole my Downtube yesterday. I'm down to two bikes again.........

But there's some guy coming over from San Fran Crisco this month to collect a ritzy folder. I plan to force-feed him buns until he's comatose, then bike-jack him.

Oooooh! I'll sign up for the force-feeding part

mulleady 08-07-08 12:47 PM

Those buns come at an expensive price if mugged by Snafu lol!

Don't you dare leaving your camera at home. We'll be wanting an exhaustive pictorial report.
