Dog leash on seat post ?
I would like to hook my dogs leash to the seatpost so she could run with me when i ride my dahon mariner.
Does anyone know of a product that would hook the leash to the seat post to use in this way? I saw this done one time but I dont remember how they had it rigged up. My dog is a rat terrier. Thanks. |
For the dog's sake, I hope you were joking.
That dog is tiny. You could kill it doing that. I would not attach a dog leash for any size dog to a bike part, unless someone made an effective breakaway device, and the dog had a harness, not just a collar. For a small dog, you should be able to put the leash under your hand, and hold it along with the grip. And still have a harness on the dog. |

I checked out the walky site.
They say it does NOT detach (breakaway) and they give a quite stupid reason for not detaching. If one designs products for dogs, one should be smarter than the dog. If you use that, promise that you will: Get a very large and strong dog. Never crash or fall. Never have anyone collide with you. |
What happens when the dog runs to the front or side and your legs get tangled in the leash?

I am only concerned about the welfare of the dog. The biker is the volunteer here.
Dogs normally have much quicker reflexes than people, just let them have the space to protect themselves, and do not overheat them by going too fast. If you want to bike with your dog, you take your chances, which is OK, and usually nothing bad happens to you. Just do not endanger the dog. |

bikerdog is a huge improvement over the walke, it appears to make it possible to not land on top of the dog in a crash. The dog could still be jerked hard, hopefully their harness will protect it.
I would still like to see a breakaway device on it. I would replace the metal attachment pin with a plastic one, and experiment with cutting partway thru it until I got it to break at a force that would not jerk the dog too much. |

I like that Springer. 2 paws up!

A friend of mine uses the springer with her 85lb dog. As long as the dog is generally behaved, it works pretty well, but I know I've seen the emergency detach feature once - dog's choice, still in training.
