All right you freaks with un-natural bikes
I'm one of you now. I've been lurking here for several days and considering a folding bike. I live in Japan and travel between US bases frequently, mostly on Cargo aircraft and a folding bike could help me get around. I also travel between the Ryuku Islands in Okinawa and a folding bike is also where it's at for that too.
There is a Japanese folder called an Ignio that costs about $150 and it's a fairly nice little bike. They're so popular here in Okinawa you have to order them to get one. I went to two dealers today and the first one was out although they had several in the store already marked as ordered and sold.
So I decided between store 1 and 2 that if they didn't have one I'd order a Dahon MU P8 since Dahon's website seems to deliver to FPO addresses.
So I go in store #2 and it's more of the same. Lots of Ignio's but all marked as sold.
So I'm walking around looking at bike gear and Lo and Behold sits a Dahon MU P8 and it's only literally a couple dollars more than if I order one and pay the shipping.
Mine. Very cool little ride.

Welcome to the forum and enjoy your MU. Can you get a picture of the other folder that were sold out?

I did not get a picture of the Ignio but I will. Here's a link. Click on the bike in the top row.

TrekJapan,
you might want to drop by the Dahon forums for Dahon specific issues, tips, etc.
https://www.dahon.com/forum/
Just an FYI, although the P8 is great, there has been some concerns regarding its seat post sliding, and some other issues with the hinge, and handle post.
which... personally i've not seen, but perhaps because i'm riding a high end model vs. the mid range models which are the ones that always complain about those problems.
The truth is, it all comes down to maintenance, keeping it maintained, it will keep it from developing any of the above described problems.
