Anybody using a Shimano nexus7 on 20" wheels?

I am building up a detatchable with 20" wheels and a Shimano nexus7 hub. Used it for some time already with the original BB + cranks for the bike but for sure the chainwheel was not right for the setup.

Now that I painted and put a modern BB I wanted to put the right size chainwheel and sprocket for it. Can not find this hub in Sheldons calculator. Anybody using it so I can put it right ? Thank you.

My dahon vitesse has a nexus 7. Maybe the information is in the manual? http://files.dahon.com/support/manua...inter7_hub.pdf

Nothing about spocket and chainring size, only that the hub should only:
"The CJ-NX10 cassette joint should only be used with sprockets from 16T to 23T". Important info, but not enough. I could just try it out, but better if I could get some info to start with.

Not a lot of response so I had to try it out. Did my first testride on the bike today. The hub had a 19 tooth sprocket in the rear, I left it on. Put a 40 tooth chainring in the front since it was easely awailable at the moment. 170 cranks,20 x 1.95 BMX tyres. Great ride, but gearing a bit off. Had problems mowing forwards on flat ground, feet spinning fast :D. Mainly dogpower that kept me moing forwards.

Thinking of trying out a 16 tooth sprocket I`we got lying around. If that is not enough I`ll start reducing the front chainwheel. I like the hub. It is spinning in a nice way, not much drag.

Pix soon.

It is on Sheldonbrown's site. Just look for the link at the bottom of the gear calc page which will take you to a hub geared page.

Thank you! I do not know why I could not find it this time, I`we used it before..

That will raise the gearing.

If that is not enough I`ll start reducing the front chainwheel.
And that will lower it back again.

Best,

For sure. I should leave this until the morning when my head is working. Just had a look in the Dahoon forum. looks like they are discussing 52 tooth front rings as a maximum (for frame reasons) and 13 and 14 tooth cogs.

What is confusing me is that I`we got a 24" with a nexus 7 and a 33 front chainwheel (stock). Not sure about rear. This is why I am thinking of a smaller front. I`ll put the 16 tooth in the rear and go for a ride, then decide.

Def: hoon: a foolish or silly person, especially one who is a show-off with a car [Aussie slang]

So, a Dahoon is a hoon on a Dahon? :roflmao2:

So I should quit riding my Daho(o)n. It is old and too flexy anyways. My only defense is it is past 03.00 at night and I should stop writing anything. Brain is on "auto" and not sharp.
