Golden Gate Bridge Folder Ride - Feb. 11th
Calling all San Francisco Bay Area folder lovers! PM124 is visiting our fair city on Feb. 11th and we are planning a BikeForums Folder Ride in his honor.
We plan to meet at the Ferry Bldg at 10:10am on Wednesday, Feb. 11th, with another meeting point at the South parking lot of the GG Bridge at 10:40am. We'll ride across the GG Bridge and up the Marin Headlands to get this view:
Then we'll do a wild and fast descent down to the Point Bonita lighthouse, ride around Bunker Rd back to Sausalito and return over the GG Bridge again. All told, I think it's around 40 miles, with about 1600 ft of climbing.
I know it's a weekday, but hey, it's a folder ride and will be well worth it. Who wants to join us?

Aw, man, I'd totally be down to ride my Strida with you guys, but I'm going to be back in the Philly area during that time . And I had been waiting for an SF Folder ride since I found these forums (live near Union Square downtown)! I'll be there in spirit .

I will be there if my bike is reassembled by then. I am having BF braze on brake bosses so I can use v-brakes up front. The work should be done in time. Apparently they will be needed for the descent!

No problem if your bike is not back. You can borrow one of mine. I plan to take CalTrain up and can meet you on the train.

I'm lucky if I can steal even 20 minutes for a mid-day Wednesday ride on the local trail down the street. Adding a 2-hour+ car trip each way would blow the whole day for me. As much as I would like to ride there, I'll do so solo on some future weekend as I've done in the past. Enjoy the ride!

I've lived in the bay area my whole life and have never got up there for that view. - that is shameful.
What's also shameful is that I'm not in good enough shape to really do it on my on my non-strida, although I might make up my mind between a dahon speed 7 or downtube by then and have a geared bike for that. But still it looks like a lot of climbing, for me.
If I can find the time the take off from the job I might join you for the first part of the ride across the bridge and then coast down to Sausalito and grab the ferry back to the city and ride back to work. We'll see.

If you can get the time off, I'll loan you my Downtube Mini. That way you can test it out in real time. The climbs are not that bad when you have the right gears. Go for it.

The outlook on Wednesday's ride doesn't look good:
1) There doesn't appear to be anyone who has positively said they can join us;
2) The weather forecast is for 70% chance of rain;
3) PM124's bike got lost by the airline's baggage handlers.
So, by default, the ride is OFF. We'll try again another time.

Thanks so much SesameCrunch.
My bike still hasn't been found. Maybe security liked what it saw in the X-ray machine in Hong Kong. United also lost my tracking slip after I put it in at the airport. I'm kind of scared that it might not be found... Any advice would be appreciated.

I have an expensive Birdy. I think it was stolen by the baggage handlers. It was the only missing bag on the 747.

It showed up!! Thanks so much for the kind thoughts. I was a bit upset for a few days, but then received the magic call. The suitcase was demolished and all of my lights were blinking because the buttons were pressed in the crush. But the bike was in perfect condition. :-)
I would really have been in trouble since I was borrowing my girlfriend's monocoque!
Thanks again everyone.
